Adverts top, bottom and right plus vìdeo on my old Samsung tablet. If I try to use the keyboard to reply (as now) I can literally only see one line of my type as the bottom advert is now 4mm away from the top advert ....sorry Andy but this is now unusable for me.

Regards,

Ian.

What is going on.

The forum has become swamped by adverts that one cannot get rid of and is therefore essential unusable.

I will come back in a couple of weeks to see if it has been resolved.

Yes; I think the main issue since yesterday afternoon relates to tablets. Is everyone who's risen up over the last 24 hours seeing this on Android and Apple tablets? Mobile and Desktops seem to be the same. Am I correct?

In case it helps, here's a screenshot of it on an Android/Samsung tablet - latest Android, Chrome in incognito mode to remove any effects from any other cookies and extensions I may have (showing the login page, obviously, as I don't see them when logged in...):

Thanks Nick, that was where I was at last night. The only change today is that the embedded video as is back to being a pop-up.

You shouldn't be getting the ads on Gold though, apart from in a few subforums - that needs attending to as well.

I don't see them on gold, I deliberately logged out to get that screenshot - I know how hard it can be supporting multiple platforms!

I'm not sure how Andy puts up with this. It really seems as though the owners of this forum have completely lost the plot.  If I were a new member coming to this site for the first time the sight of all this advertising with intrusive video and creeping adverts would send me away never to return.  Would I be taking a subscription to get rid of the adverts?  No,  because I would never have get as far as seeing the wealth of good stuff.  The chances of picking up new subscribers seems little to none.

If the site needs proper funding then it needs a radical rethink. A mass of tacky advertising is not going to do it as it will drive new subscribers away not attract them.  If you want to extract money from the users you have to provide something of extra value while still allowing new users to get a hint of what they can get.

The current state of things is simply pissing off many longtime users and the site has become unusable.

Cheers

Dave

P.S. It took me ages to type this as there's a stupid video pop-up getting in the way and a really annoying creeping thing coming down from the top of the screen. Time for me to take a break from this site until it sorts out it's identity, either a really useful modelling resource or yet another tacky bit of click bait.

I think this is a really good point. The very worst websites I've seen for intrusive ads are newspaper ones; at least one will publish the first few lines of a story, which fade out to a box telling me to subscribe to read the whole thing. Does it motivate me to subscribe..?? Of course not!!!

Similarly there has been discussion before about other model railway Forums, which are only viewable once you pay up. General consensus seems to be, that at least some content should be free to view, to see if you want to join or not. If it's a totally 'closed' member's only Forum then thanks but no thanks, and yes I am thinking of the recent new "7mm Society" (or whoever they are) one.

Someone at Warners or working on their behalf just does not seem to understand this Forum at all, or doesn't care what impact their actions are having.

Site or software?

RMweb was launched on 15 March 2005, by me, paid for by me etc.

Just because you don't remember something doesn't mean it didn't happen.

You had hair back then too.

Well, after a fashion.

Not PC to say who’s brother you were likened too.

Brother Cadfael ??  He had a haircut with a hole in the middle.  You can tell I'm now retired and spend too much time watching old TV programmes !!

Thank you; that's the crucial bit I needed to know. Any iPad users who can confirm what they're getting please?

My Apple iPad mini is mainly covered in ads & videos. 66% covered.

A lot of detractors, can I be a supporter ?

iMac , safari . I log in, hit the privacy tag and reject all. I then just get the video ad in the bottom rhs which I can close, but it is little and ignorable.

The site gets slow at peak times so I just come back when it isn't busy. The more folk get a bit frustrated and click on a load of stuff the slower it will get.

I hear people saying they will go elsewhere. Which elsewhere? No other forum has the breadth of user knowledge as RMweb. Specialist forums may dig deeper, but as a general resource it is unmatched.

So I'm staying and continuing to contribute in my small way. I thank the admins for doing a bit of a thankless task, lets keep it all going.

Any chance of a screenshot please?

How the f**k I take a screenshot? I did try. Screen covered by s**t in Rmweb. My PhD is not in computer science.
I feel for the Rmweb editors, you have been screwed by your publishers & advert people.
Please sort this out.

Press the iPad  power button and either of the volume buttons simultaneously and briefly. It will take a screenshot and add it to your photo library.

You then start your new post and click the “choose files…” > photo library and click on the screenshot to insert in a post.
