RMweb Gold rodent279 Posted October 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 13, 2020 (edited) Think I may have asked this question before, but I can't find the thread now. What are the dimensions of the slow speed control axle sensors on class 26, also class 33, as I assume they are the same? I'd like to add some to my Lima class 26, as I want to model 26003 in 1984. Pic below of 33201 shows said box on the inner axle of the leading bogie. Cheers N Edited October 13, 2020 by rodent279
RMweb Premium Davexoc Posted October 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 13, 2020 Looking at a side-on view shows the cover as about the same size as the area within the lower footsteps, squared as on a 33 though rather than tapered on a 26. I never realised the 33/2s had slow speed control fitted. Similarly class 47s that were fitted had the covers angled out/upwards. The cover was plain on the outside and beneath was a toothed wheel bolted to the axle. The pick-up was a small proximity sensor. If you put the cover back on upside down, the speedo didn't work for long once the loco moved because there was a milled cut-out giving clearance between teeth and cover, and the wrong way broke all the teeth off. I know because someone put the cover back on upside down after an ultrasonic axle test (wasn't me fortunately, but lesson learnt). 1
slilley
I included this picture in The Class 33s A Sixty Year History which shows the axle mounted box a bit clearer. You may be able to work out the dimensions from it.
