Peckett 560
Hi all, I am interested into buying one of the Hattons Andrew Barclay models for 00 gauge. They seem to be a good runner, according to my internet research. Do the models run like the Hornby Peckett or (very) similar? In terms of layout control I am not sure weather to run it DC or DCC. Has anyone made experiences with theese models? Cheers Peckett

SRman
My two don't get a great deal of running, but their running qualities are similar to those of Hornby's Pecketts - i.e. they are very good. I cannot report on longer term running, but the mechanism apears to be quite robust. Fitting a DCC chip can be a little fiddly. I broke one of the clacks on the red 'Katie', in spite of being very careful and knowing what to watch for, but fortunately it was hidden by the ladder. Adam
Apart from having a Smokey Joe type top speed they run very well - or at least, mine does. DCC can sort that but shouldn’t have too. Adam
RMweb Gold Sweet pea Posted October 17, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 17, 2020 I have the GWR version from Hattons and she is beautiful, can’t fault these lovely locos.
johnd
No problems running one on DCC just reduce the CV that controls max speed and should solve any speed issues. As regards the Peckett/Barclay comparison the only area to watch is slide rod (Piston) guides, metal on the Peckett but plastic on the Barclay , the Peckett I found to be more robust. apart from that no problems and I have 3 of them. RMweb Gold Captain Kernow Posted October 17, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 17, 2020 I have two of them and straight out of the box, one is definitely smoother than the other. Same with the Hornby Pecketts. Sometimes you can rectify these quirks, sometimes you can't. Not everyone is bothered by them, though.
Peckett 560
Many thanks for your comments! They help a lot. I think I might place an order on an example. Cheers
dud spud
they're very good but be careful if you try to take the chassis out from the shell, there's a few bits that are fiddly to remove which you need to remove to take out the chassis. other than that I cant reccomend them enough
