michaelp
Hi all, is it ok to use 'Humbrol Acrylic paint Thinners' with other brands of acrylic paints? Thank in advance
Jeff Smith
You should test it by mixing a sample to see if it mixes properly and then let it dry. Years ago I tried to blend acrylic paint from two different manufactures (can't remember which) and they did not mix. Manufacturers change formulas and usually rename over the years. If all else fails try distilled or purified water.
RMweb Gold Enterprisingwestern Posted October 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2020 I have Railmatch and Tamiya thinners which I use in all manufacturers acrylic paints, (I also use white spirit to thin down all enamel paint, but that's another story!) and I've not had any problems so far, but maybe I've just got away with it. The safest way is to use the matching thinners, but then, more cost and storage issues. I think somebody does a universal acrylic thinner, can't remember who, but that might be an answer? RMweb Gold ikcdab Posted October 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2020 Ive always used dilute IPA. Works a treat for me amd seems to make the paint run smoother.
Jeff Smith
My preferred acrylic paint for general use is Testors Acryl, it is resistant to IPA which is the main constituent of a weathering paint kit I have. Vallejo tends to be attacked by IPA and does not pass my thumbnail scratch test.
