It just seems strange to build an accurate replica of a Britannia and then disguise it. I wonder why they couldn't have based it on an actual French loco.

To most filmmakers, it is just a steam loco. They probably wouldn't appreciate the difference between a Schools & a rebuilt Scot.

Remember this is the franchise which depicted a TGV running wrong line through the Kent countryside with no OLE or 3rd rail, then went from open fields straight into the channel tunnel; no terminal, no yard.

I was reading the producers are looking for a bridge to blow up so I imagine this yoke will be on top or near it when it happens. Tom or Evan will no doubt escape by his fingertips whilst just about to be shoveled alive into the Firebox by the Arch Enemy.

Correct - they wanted to blow up one on a currently-disused line in Poland, there was a huge uproar about it a couple of months ago. Said bridge has since been given protected status...

I watched it at the Silver Screen in Folkestone; the audience was almost entirely composed of Eurotunnel staff...

Yes. One was dragged through it in steam to test the smoke deflectors when it was first built.

Can't remember what it was but it was a French or Belgian passenger locomotive.

IIRC a BR38 or deriveative of one like a P8 was used as a smoke generator to test out the smoke vent systems. Just about every european railway administration (except the UK of course) had at least some - there were something like 3,700 built many still in service in the 1970's.

Found an image - hope it does not infringe any copyright. It looks like a French version with charectoristic SNCF smoke deflectors & cab front.

Inauguration day at the Channel Tunnel. The loco (and another at the other end) had worked a special to the Chemin de Fer du Baie de Somme the previous day, and then did a short visit to the Tunnel, running as far as the ventilation shafts at Sangatte. It was justified as 'testing the ventilation systems'.....

No smoke detectors in the Chunnel then?
