Guest Jack Benson
Hi, This is somewhat difficult to explain but a couple of SR stations had, what is in effect, a large running-in board erected across the road entrance to the station, I think there was one on the Isle of Sheppey. Were these signs a short lived phenomenon that was rare and soon discarded? Unfortunately finding an image has proved to be difficult. Cheers
RMweb Gold D9020 Nimbus Posted October 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 18, 2020 I think I see what you're getting at. ISTR there was a photograph of this situation at Allhallows in an issue of Rail Model Digest accompanying an Iain Rice layout design—the design itself was titled "Oldhallows-on-Sea". Unfortunately, I can't access my copy at the moment, but it might be worth checking it out, if you can…

It strikes me as like a poor man's Severn Beach. The fact that (as seen here http://www.disused-stations.org.uk/a/allhallows_on_sea/index2.shtml) the glass running-in board was still perfectly intact in 1967 - six years after closure - surely testifies that barely anyone either lived there or went there.
