RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted October 20, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2020 I paid £60 for a Mamod train set back in 1979. I's suggest if it is a live steamer then the boiler has been moulded from margarine. 1
RMweb Gold The Johnster Posted October 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 21, 2020 I wouldn't touch any of this stuff with a barge, never mind a bargepole. The prices seem odd for the products, sometimes insanely cheap but more often unaccountably expensive, who(what)ever wrote the descriptions clearly has a poor command of English and might be computer generated. It bears all the hallmarks of a scam, probably so crude as to be no more than taking your cash and not supplying any goods. Meet the instructions, steam locomotives are called steam locomotives. 1

Administrators Phil Parker Posted October 21, 2020 Administrators Share Posted October 21, 2020 I've seen this ad a few times and it's telling that there are two trains in there. The brass live steam one everyone wants, and a horrid black plastic thing. I wonder which you get for your money? 2
RMweb Gold JohnR Posted October 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 21, 2020 There is a drop down where you can choose whether you want the "copper" train or the black one. The "copper" one being the live steamer, of course. Conveniently, the "Copper" engine is sold out.

Nearholmer
Can't someone here just order one and report back what happens (nothing?) as a way of sating our curiosity? The brass loco and track look to me like skilled home-engineering ......... i bet the person who spent hours making it, then proudly posted pictures on the web has no idea that their hobby has been ripped-off by scammers.

Erm. It's a scam. Using photographs they've found online usually eBay. Just a way to harvest your details and credit card. Good luck ordering one..... Nearholmer
You misunderstand: I have no intention of ordering one; the idea was that someone else should.
Talltim
Forget the train, I want a warehouse! Yes. But do you think it's wise suggesting that? You should know by now that some on here aren't exactly the smartest people around....

Florence Locomotive Works
Chaps, it may not be the greatest idea in the first place going on a website like that. Viruses, nasty algorithms that dwell in the shadows, AI bots etc. Douglas
