To be honest you've come up with a couple of designs that work for you. That's the important thing. I cant say if they are right or wrong because there is no right or wrong. Whatever suits you is great. Only you know what satisfies you. Keep on playing with anyrail, look through old magazines (take out a digital subscription and you get access to all the backnumbers) and work what you want. If you want a small halt by a loco depot then that's perfect. It's your layout!

Did you consider Sevenoaks,  20 minutes down the line,  Sevenoaks is simpler only 4 platforms,  trains reverse to take the Bat & Ball line towards Otford and Swanley,  there is the Gusset for stabling  stock and there was a siding on the Up road.  as a natural endbreak  is the portal of Sevenoaks Tunnel

Sevenoaks is simpler and narrower than Orpington. But it is still about ten times too big to fit the space available to the OP.
