RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted October 21, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 21, 2020 Just reported by the BBC: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-54635421 But it is not a franchise anyway, it is a management contract. So it is already nationalised isn't it? Jonathan
RMweb Gold TravisM Posted October 21, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 21, 2020 (edited) Apart from open access operators and freight companies, all passenger services are run on behalf over HM Government by the means of a franchise, therefore they have never been “privatised” in the same way as buses and other transportation. It’s hardly surprising to hear this as all TOC’s at the present moment are released from their obligations because of the pandemic and to be honest, it’s not a day too soon. RMweb Premium corneliuslundie Posted October 22, 2020 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2020 Yes, but this one was a management contract from the start, managed by the Welsh Assembly. In fact Transport for Wales is both a Welsh quango and the operating name for the railway company. Jonathan
RMweb Premium Nile Posted October 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2020 Also covered here by Railnews They describe it as a concession, which means a private company running the trains but not taking revenue risk. In practicle terms nothing is going to change, this seems to be a financial exercise.
