Following the arrival of our lovey Exclusive ex LSWR/SR Road Van models and our recent Skrifa posts regarding SR locomotive headsignals and other company steam / diesel headcodes, this Skrifa post takes a look at the requirement for tail / side lamps on brake vans etc. to denote the rear of the train.

"using the Southern Railway Rule Book 1993 (Reprinted 1945) as a guide," Might that be 1933?

We always knew that they were a forward looking company.

By the way Graham, are you still modelling Hawkhurst ?

All the best

Ray

Hawkhurst and for that matter Lydford Junction are  long term plans due to lack of space (even Fisherton Sarum is in storage currently), but I have built some of the buildings for Hawkhurst and have the required rolling stock for both layouts already.

Jolly good.

My Hawkhurst is currently awaiting three replacement points as each has a blade detached from the tie bar, temporarily repaired. (The layout is over thirty years old). I will then be replacing four of the main buildings and refreshing the scenery.

I have a fair selection of stock, but will be building a number of etched brass coaches to get it right for the SE & CR period circa 1911 (flexible).

I have some of the Bachmann 60ft birdcages, right colours, but not really appropriate for my rural branch. However, I have not ordered any of the Hattons 4/6 wheeled coaches as they appear to be sticking with an inappropriate livery. Maybe they will run some in the dark crimson livery later on.

My current modelling time is committed to Crystal Palace High Level, due to be shown at the Beckenham and West Wickham Show in October. (Hopefully).

All the best

Ray

P.S No sign of my LSWR Road Vans yet. Now back on thread.

That reminds me to go along and fill in all the places where I didn't get the whole third rail covered in paint!

Thank you Graham and Kernow.

I dont' know if this is authorized but I save this material on a windows PC/Chrome  (in case something should happen to Kernow's website) by highlighting the material and then selecting print and then Print to PDF.

At the moment I have no immediate plans for a 4mm scale third rail layout although I do have a dream of someday being able to create the scene of the Penge East station in the 1947-49 period with Malachite green 4 SUBS and the Penge Tunnel as the primary features.  A memory of my Family home area.
