Soldering lights to a Bachmann 21 pin decoder

Recommended Posts

Is there anyone who can help me? I have a locomotive which has been fitted with front and tender oil lamps. Can anyone tell me how I solder the wires to a Bachmann 21 pin decoder? I have posted this on before but it did not get any response.

Thank you

Mike

Mike,

A quick Google brought up https://dccwiki.com/21MTC_Connector that shows pins 7 and 8 of the MTC21 connector are used for the lights. That explains the 'where'.

If you are talking about the 'how', then I'd be looking at the PCB fitted in the loco to find where pins 7 and 8 are connected to. Hopefully there is a solder pad along the PCB trace that you can use. If not, then it's a case of looking elsewhere - maybe the underside of the PCB where the MTC21 pins come through? I think that trying to solder to the actual DCC chip PCB might be too difficult (although I have seen it done).

Sorry can't be of much more help as this is not something I've dabbled in, although I have retrofitted a number of DCC chips to older locos.

You could also try posting in the https://www.rmweb.co.uk/community/index.php?/forum/178-dcc-help-questions/ section.
