24T ore hoppers - when were they introduced?

Recommended Posts

A bit difficult to answer, as Bachmann have taken some liberties with this model.

.

It could (or would) be argued by some members hereabouts, that not being 100% accurate, one cannot pin down a date for such a model.

.

If the livery is based on a real one, then researching Richard Thomas & Co. Ltd may assist.

Looking at David Larkin's 'Wagons of the Early British Railways Era', he suggests they started to appear in 'British Iron and Steel Corporation' livery in 1939-40, to a design by Charles Roberts, and the design was carried on by BR. Early wagons were 22t capacity, the first 24t ones appearing from April 1951.
