Aston On Clun. A forgotten Great Western outpost.

It's quite shameful that some of those kits I have had kicking around more than half a lifetime. They will get built for this layout, otherwise I might just as well sell them.

On the upside, I have done a little bit tonight on behalf of everyone else who is still at the not entirely exciting stage of layout building and made a whole heap of dropper wires for the baseboard joints. Thrilling...

To put it into Corporate Bull@#£& terms, I am "future proofing" the layout by the old school method of soldering the rails into brass screws at each baseboard joint and running a dropper wire to a connector. That way if we move house, I won't have to scrap the layout, or can at least give it away.

I plan on soldering them all into position by tonight.

Of course, what we plan and what we actually do can vary wildly...:D

I feel you need to make more use of terms like "synergy", "fault tolerant", "customer oriented", "facilitation", "dynamic", "proactive" and "paradigm". :)

You need to compellingly cultivate agile potentialities, whilst efficiently synergising intermandated core competencies, to achieve credibly developed process-centric information.

Bravo, but it may be brought up at your performance meeting that you didn't manage to crowbar in the words "synthesis", "dichotomy" or use approved phrases "add value" or "key performance indicators". Although it might be worth noting that all of these words may be out of fashion by the new year and possibly even considered so insensitive or downright offensive that you will be forced to resign and issue a grovelling apology to someone you never knew existed.

Be well citizen.

On the other hand, I may just go out in celebration of my own cultural and ethnic heritage and burn a few villages....

Nah, it's raining and RRH is busy studying some biology research that causes me to twitch violently trying to understand. I better go and get those wires soldered in.

It's Friday night, what happened to us? :scratchhead:

Pah, a mere amateur... I've spent the last week writing ISO27001 policies and documentation, I'm even beginning to dream in buzzwords...

Nice to see you moving the needle here, Rob.  Going forward, let's not let the grass grow too long on this one.  Take the low hanging fruit but be prepared to look under the bonnet.  If you need to touch base offline and have an idea shower you know where to find me.

Ciao.

Ummm - how do we pronounce "Clun"? I ask because I had Welsh neighbours when I lived in Kent (they'd recently moved back from Munich, as a matter of fact). They swore that Clun, being in the Marches, should be pronounced 'clean'. I was sceptical, having passed through the village and seen a pub called the Sun at Clun. Was it really the Scene at Clean? Surely not?

That box of wagonry looks like some serious fun!

Clunton and Clunbury,

Clungunford and Clun,

are the quietest places

under the sun

A.E. Housman, A Shropshire Lad.

The ambience of this imaginary branch put me in mind of the Kington lines, as described in Nicholas de Courtais' The New Radnor Branch (Wild Swan, 1992) - although in Herefordshire rather than Shropshire, they had the same failed east-west ambitions and history of Great Western take-over of local schemes.

Which takes us back to the engine shed you were talked out of. Kington had a one-horse engine shed, although it was a through station, because it had been the original terminus of the line until the New Radnor extension was built. If you want that engine shed back, I'm sure your history could accommodate it.

Another thread, another Stuka! At this rate Stukas are going to end up with their own sub forum! :D

I would ask where the intrepid Sqn Ldr is but it’s Fri night, the RAF would have clocked off hours ago plus it’s happy hour in the Officers’ Mess at RAF Little Muddle. :laugh_mini::laugh_mini:

A few short years after the war, the RAF gave my uncle an Avro Anson. Well, several actually, he kept breaking them. They couldn't shoot down a Stuka even if they could catch the crooked winged flying henhouse. But he was expected to use it to keep an eye on the new enemy.

He did get to count amongst his drinking buddies the likes of Peter Townshend, one time flame of Princess Margaret by all accounts.

I am going to use another fashionable phrase: "trigger words" , trigger words examples are " team briefing", "exciting new Toyota" and "bus on a bridge". These result in an automatic dive-bomber attack.

That is all.

Don't mention the wagons. I was asked by SWMBO if I had bought them all off eBay and got mercilessly mocked when I said that I bought a lot of them before the internet, before I left school etc. She replied "And before I was born..." So I have been fending old geezer remarks half the day.

I keep seeing those Tame Duck books on eBay or with specialist book dealers for rather optimistic sums. I used to have quite a few. I think I will have a look for that one regardless as the New Radnor branch is one of those odd lines that appeal.

You never know with that engine shed. I might just reinstate it at a later date. For now, not having it saves me a good bit of work.

There's now power to the track and the nearest loco to hand hasn't run for over 20 years, the motion definitely needs looking at, you can hear it locking up!

I was trying to put up a 15 second video, but I got a file over 10mb blah blah notice. Sorry folks!

Maybe - The world ended several years ago and we just didn't get the email yet? ;)

But we have a railway! (ish)

I also think you need to take the strategic view, strive for continuous improvement using lean methodology and Six Sigma, not forgetting to keep an open door policy, and customer centric approach to developing your operational processes for building, displaying and operating your layout.  Not forgetting that any staff you employ in doing so are your most valuable asset.
