What? You paid £3.25 for it? Can't remember what I paid for mine (new), but it was less than that

Alex

The extra couple of quid in inflation is the price I have had to pay for being younger than most of you lot...

The flash on the kit wasn't too bad, some you could shave with. The new ones seem to have had the moulds overhauled and it isn't a problem.

What I always do with plastic kits is put a dab of solvent in each bearing housing, wait a few seconds and press in a 2mm bearing with the side of a penknife blade. It might sound crude, but the solvent allows you to press in the bearing without drilling and without cracking the plastic. When it sets, the bearing doesn't fall out.

The other thing I do is lose the coupling bar from the bogie pivots by using each one as a template to round off the other.

The weather has been far too nice today for swearing at little bits of plastic.

We had a little trip out to test a theory. Scottie Bridge up on Shap is a rather lonely spot, so it's not on a bus route.

This is the view looking south toward Tebay. Stayed there for ten minutes or so, the sky was clear of ominous clouds and more importantly, no sign of those pesky Stukas...

North towards the former Scout Green crossing:

Just visible among the conifers on the right is the site of the keepers house. The road to it is gated nowadays with a sign saying Private Road. No Parking. No Access To Railway. No doubt a result of repeated gricer infestations.

What was once there is this.

Oddly both alamy and getty lay claim to this picture...

Of course there's a model inspired by it on RMWeb

It also occurs to me that I have never seen a bridge on a model railway with three vintage motorcycles parked on it...

That's because they have been bombed by the Stukas, although I doubt the bridge would still be there

Correlation is not causation.

Indeed not, despite the dreams of advertising executives.

When she's too tired to do anything more productive, the memsahib likes to ridicule adverts.

She recently pointed out that you are seven times more likely to die from drinking dirty water than finding love on eHarmony...

Whether this was an exercise in reductio ad absurdum  or a less than subtle reminder that I had better be nice to her, I'm not entirely sure...

Possibly, but it has to be remembered that the same lot took Prague with half a dozen motorcycles and a big stick announcing: "Hand over the city or we'll be back with the Stukas to make your rare and collectible buses into little puddles of solder..."

Number two Macaw is getting there. I know that it's fashionable in some circles to dismiss them as crude, outdated and an uncommon prototype (I think that I have heard that they're not quite the right length too.) But they are enjoyable to build and don't look out of place on a branchline or a mainline.

Which is probably why Ratio made them.

Now, that is an interesting little box!

How I got into hacking about kits and bits of plastic was thanks to an article in Model Railway Constructor when I was about ten on how to convert the Airfix Oakham MR standard box into a facsimile or Dent Head. I even painted it in Midland lemon chrome and maroon.

I don't have the article and these are just pictures I have saved for my own interest. I believe that the HMRS has both pictures and drawings. It's a fairly common box, such as this one at Claughton, Lancs. It's still there, or at least it was yesterday!

Another favourite, because I have been there several times is Belah, pictures of the box in use and the ruins are very atmospheric. I think that you will find the early photo interesting.

That makes sense, I suppose that the one piece roof is one of the most costly but universal components. I know that a number of moulded kit manufacturers use common sprues throughout their range that still make economic sense even when some of the parts are surplus.

Enough of the signal box porn, in an effort to forestall the almost inevitable disappointment that more wiring work may bring about I have...

Assembled, modified and started painting No2 Macaw.

I have also put a basic coat of light stone and raw brick on the station.

Then a basic paint job on the miles of fencing that I need. This isn't all of it!

Have you ever had a look at those dating sites?

You too could find your own Lizzie Borden....

Or Dennis Nielson, depending upon your preference...

Must remember to be inclusive, this wolf don't want the Thought Police to whack him on the snout with a rolled up copy of The Guardian...:nono:

Having been a participant in dating sites I can tell you they are savage places, but having said that I met my partner on one and she still hasn’t smothered me with a pillow in the night yet so happy days!

Good wagon and building progress. Makes me wonder if you’re like me and can’t just have one project going at a time.

I met mine in a much safer environment, a sleep awareness course as a part of treatment for PTSD. She loves, classical music, vintage clothing, swords and guns.....

At least that's an honest dating profile.

I think that a lot of us have several irons in the fire, handy for those moments when you run out of Humbrol number 53 on a Sunday night or simply realise that you haven't a clue what you're doing...

Well, that's how it happens for me anyway.

“Swords and guns”  - if I’d seen that on an online dating profile I’m not sure if I’d have been excited or terrified. Probably both. Haha.
The great thing about this hobby is one minute you can be creating electronic wizardry with a soldering iron and the next trying to make a meadow out of bags of dust. Never gets boring :-)

She never did online dating, so never needed to gild the lily (or just plain lie) she just said "I like your boots"

There was a meme going round recently, along the lines of:

Photoshopped selfies, fake hair, fake brows, fake lashes, fake lips, fake breasts, fake tan, but she wants "A REAL man!" :haha:

( But doesn't really, he wouldn't tolerate her narcissism )

I like how this hobby combines most of the things that I love, art, engineering, carpentry, history, creativity.... The list goes on and on.
