Reinder
Welcome to Alloa Modelrailway For the interested people, Arbroath concept has being terminated in favor of Alloa After some thinking and lots of reading in BRM/Model Rail i finally got a good idea on how i wanted to have my modest size layout. I was always interested in the Alloa trackplan that was featured in BRM Trackplans and after some testing and help from Anyrails i got the plan working on my available space. Alloa Station is placed on my largest part of my table. About 5 meters long so i can just push the station in with long enough platform for 8 coach trains. I adjusted the layout A bit, removed a few points and added 1 extra platform because it adds some interesting movements in the station. Here you can see my trackplan. The small red line in the big station is the extra platform. I tried to stay as close to reality as possible but compromises cant be avoided and with the current stage of the plan i am pretty happy. Construction has already started on the branchline, the Fiddleyard is 50% finished but on hold because i need more points And i have placed 8 tracks in the fiddleyard instead of 6 in the trackplan. Trains can now drive between the 2 small stations and i hope before christmas all around the layout. depending if peco can supply the much needed pointwork. Luckely woodworks are about 85% finished so we can lay down track in Alloa Station. I will add some work in progress pictures later on If people got pictures or article about Alloa station please tell me. Kind Regards
RMweb Gold Joseph_Pestell Posted November 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2020 Great choice of location. I think that it's a pity to put in the extra platform. Plenty of interesting operation without that. Those spirals look a bit optimistic with regard to curve radius.
RMweb Gold scottystitch Posted November 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 16, 2020 I would echo Joseph's misgivings about the extra platform. Alloa was quite a busy place with plenty going on. It would be a shame to deviate so markedly from a very recognisable sunject. The trackwork at the eastern end looks pretty good and you've otherwise captured the layout well. Best Scott.

I might remove the extra platform. Nut sure yet about it

Maby i will skip the extra platform.

One of the finest and best railways I have seen. I stood and just watched trains for ages at Glasgow. Honestly I was in awe of how good it was. I would echo the comments, leave as it was, more than enough interest to keep you amused. I am looking forward to seeing this one as I am also embarking on an N project. Reinder
So here is the first small update. On this side of the room will be Alloa station. Still need some work before i can start laying track. I do hope to finish this week with the laat wood works because it's really not my thing On this side I already started laying tracks down. Sadly i can't finish the fiddle your because i don't got enough points to finish it atm because i want to make 2 tracks go all around first so i can have a train running. Reinder
This week we started on the tracks behind Alloa station. Placing the small helix and laying down tracks at the back side in the powerbase system. The table still needs a bit more work so the ramp will be more smoothly Until next time
luckymucklebackit
Hi Reindeer - best of luck with your project. I couldn't help noticing you location, I work for a Life Sciences company and one of our sites that I support is in Lelystad, I know quite a few people there. I have passed through in the train and hope to get over later next year once the vaccine is rolled out and travel is an option once again! Reinder
Finally a bit more text from my side. I have decided to remove the extra platform, this wil give me a bit more scenery room instead of only tracks on the table You can see here the revised trackplan without the extra platform. I will use the tracks in the back to hold trains for a few minutes so i can simulate a busy rush hour. luckely the PC will help me with controlling the layout. I have also adjusted the small engineshed to make it a bit more usefull instead of the older more prototype version. I also start to kinda like a nice looking TMD. And well you need a good spot to display the more fancy locomotives. I am strugling a bit to stay with the Scottish theme. I do like a Class 52 western blue livery allot. Maby i can make a excursion train out of it. I have also started putting some work in the PC already, you dont wanna lay tracks all day. I still got to update with the new trackplans but it's getting allong nicely. Well that was not that much text as some people. Writing in english is a bit harder for me than speaking english. Kind regards and until next time!
Reinder
Hi W Well a bit bigger update this time. I finished all the hidden track for the mainline. Except a few tracks in my fiddle yard but finding turnouts at the moment is pretty hard. But pictures say more than my rubbish English as a Dutch guy. After the laying of the hidden tracks i finally could lay down the table top for my grand project wich also has a lack of turnouts at the moment vut i do have enough to make sure we can have a train running this Christmas. As you can see i have added a 1.1 profile of my trackplan so i can make the tracks the right way. Luckily we still jave enough stuff to do before we run out of thing to do. My local modelshop here in the Netherlands was pleased to supply me with british trains and my first one has arrived. I have also started collecting mk1 coaches blue but that's hard finding the right ones. I am not that experienced if the older version of Graham farish are just as good as the new ones. If someone can help me with some more info about alloa station. Photo's, building plans i would be very happy because its hard to find anything from this side of the water. Stay safe! The Chinese made older versions are ok - but they are printed sides so smooth apart from something to represent the door handles. I wouldn't mix them with the Blue Riband versions, they will show their age but on their own apart from the bigger gap between the coaches they look fine. Reinder
And another update on Alloa Finally we have enough tracks pinned down so we can have a train running allong the trackk for major test works. the small coaching yard is also ready to be put into action when the time comes. i adjusted the depot for the engines because of the limited space so i came up with my own idea of making it interesting. Thats what i really like about the hobby, be faced with a problem and finding a right solution that looks beter also. Track laying is at a hold at the moment because of the massive back log at the Dutch postage service for international postage so all my new coaches and tracks are still stuck in the warehouses sadly. Secondly the lockdown here is not really helping me getting stuff for contours of the landscape. But it gives me time to try out all my engines and thinking about what will do next. Here we see my powerhub where all the wires are going for a safe layout. hopefully next update will include more pointwork so we can run more trains around. even with the layout in early stages it still allot of fun watching the train go around
RMweb Premium Kris Posted January 2, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 2, 2021 This looks like a great project. What is the gradient on the smaller spiral, in the photos it looks very steep.

On the mainline i have added powerbase just to be sure
