Middlesea John
I want to have a go at scribbling destinations on the sides of freight and parcels vans. Please does anyone have a suggestion as to the right pen to use ? I've found a post from 2013 from deltic17 of this parish who used a Faber-Castell Polychromos in colour Cold Grey 1. But I also remember an article in a magazine that suggested something else. I can get to a Hobbycraft or the Range relatively easily or do I need a specialist art shop ? Many thanks. Tim V
Chinagraph pencil. Just sharpen it for the size of writing you want. 1 3
SP Steve
My pencil of choice for chalk markings are Derwent Studio types - No 1 Zinc Yellow, No 70 French Grey, No 71 Silver Grey and No 72 Chinese White. No doubt there are a multitude of suitable artist pencils but one item I'd recommend is a decent sharpener to help achieve nice thin markings (mine is a Kum Automatic AS2M Long Point sharpener, part number 1053121). The magazine article you were thinking of may be the one by Pete Johnson which appeared in MRJ 2004 with another by Paul Jarman in the same issue. 1 1

Bristol_Rich
I use a “Uni Paint White” marker as https://www.amazon.co.uk/Uni-ball-Paint-Marker-Extra-White/dp/B001ARZBRY or Molotow white paint pen. Both are supplied with 0.5mm nibs (possibly even 0.3) and are suitable for hand scribed chalk markings. Being “paint” it’s permanent and withstand handling. GDR
Old style correction tape (Tippex I think make a modern version). Write with a needle.
hmrspaul
I bought a white Pilot G-2 07 from Smiths to write Xmas cards, but it does well for chalk marks, nicely fine. Half a century ago I did well with a dip pen and Pelican white ink - they are still nicely marked. Paul
