RMweb Premium Kris Posted December 13, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2020 https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/uk-england-hampshire-55246642 Not something that I would go to see even if I was close but I really do hope it brings them lots of money to keep going. 1
Robin Brasher
They are doing the same on the Swanage Railway. It is attracting a lot of local interest and the seats are fully booked.

RMweb Gold nigb55009 Posted December 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2020 There was a recent episode of the "Yorkshire steam railway" that featured a similar illuminated Christmas train. I`m guessing it was probably filmed last year, which means the Mid Hants train is not the "first in the world" as stated on BBC this morning. It`s just the first the BBC have heard of. Makes you wonder if they conveniently forgot the NYMR`s efforts, just because it was on another channel. Anyway, much as I hate Christmas, good luck to all preservation groups, if it helps to provide much needed funds after the events of this year. I just wish TV companies would get their facts right when it comes to railways, or has that been mentioned before? Rant over, just in the right mood now to face going shopping. RMweb Gold Bucoops Posted December 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2020 Probably an idea we got from America. I know of at least one doing it from at least as far back as 2014. I always wonder when I see these, how it works with driver visibility. Night vision will be essentially zero?

RMweb Gold 45655 Posted December 13, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2020 The claim is that it's the world's first pixel mappable LED train. I don't think anyone is suggesting that it's the first ever illuminated train. I believe it's also the first time in the UK that a railway has run two illuminated trains simultaneously. I have to say that it's really rather impressive! 2

pete_mcfarlane
It's hideous and tacky, but if it brings money in the for the railway then it's a great idea.
