Are you and Western Aviator purchasers of the latest bachman 45022? I am hanging out for a run of the mill un named one. So may get a Heljan.

Not guilty either! I sold my last OO models in about 1992.

Reading

Early to mid 80s. I seem to have spent a lot of time down the western end of the station.

Me too.

It wasn't common to see a Class 50 stabled in the centre road between platforms 8 and 9. For a while in the 80s there was a 50 booked to work an early afternoon cross country train from the BNS to Reading, then light engine to OC for an evening peak commuter. On the very odd occasion it stayed at Reading and worked back to BNS later.

Oooh, Coeur De Lion, the first one. I repainted a friend's Lima 87 into that scheme back then. Even had a go at making a Hi-Speed pan (not too successful in overhead operation).

Yes I was wondering if it was the first. Thanks for confirming it. Must have been special for me to expend 3 pictures of my 24 roll film on it. Although not world's best pictures mind.

New Livery

This obviously grabbed my attention in the sea of rail blue at Euston.

Oh dear.... the 'jam sponge' livery (as I called it) was the beginning of the end of my first phase of interest in UK trains. The writing was on the wall for BR Blue. :(

-Just as I was becoming old enough to get interested! I love the crossover that always rears it’s head throughout time. BR blue/Revised,IC,NSE,Exec/ Sector liveries. I fell out of love with/during privatisation. It’s what makes us tick!

No ones right and no ones wrong! We all love it at our own pace and era!

However, despite being a rail blue man, I agree the late 80s early 90s provided a great variety of liveries and makes for a very good era to model. But also for me they represent the culling of classes and the slow creep towards privatisation and my gradual decline in interest

The mid-eighties was the zenith of my interest in railways; plenty of different classes still about and lots of variety livery-wise. Prior to that, visual excitement was a bit of white paint on the roof of a Stratford duff, the cab windows of a Finsbury Park Deltic or along the side of a 31/4....
