Blurred 50s

Poor efforts from a young man.

1982 Paddington and Plymouth in a blizzard.

Great photos. I had to spend a couple of hours yesterday at Paddington for work , and it’s lost a lot of the atmosphere without any diesel noise, although it’s a lot lighter and airy

Superb shot, this snowy scene reminds me of a wintry trip on the Night Riviera back in the day. I had stepped off the train at Plymouth for a shiver and a smoke, which was allowed then!

That night was very cold but atmospheric. I had got off a train from Bristol....I have no idea why.

Glad the picture brought back some memories for you.

Cheers

London HSTs

Kings Cross. Paddington. St Pancras. I am guessing 1982/3

The first picture is a classic shot at Kings Cross HST,s always a place to watch them depart northwards.

It's not a Deltic, but this shot kind of sums up Kings Cross back in the day. Hope you like it. All the best Steve.

(It's like there is a little subset of the populus with which 70s 80s rail blue really stirs the soul...and understandably to 99.9% of folks it means nothing)

Anyway my rail blue brothers. An every day shot from 40 years ago.

Lovely shot that I think works on several levels. The human interest is placed just right, the arch of the station roof matches the 47 roof, and then there is the Brute and platform trolleys.

Magic.

cheers

Thanks, I have never looked at it like that, now I see why I like it but I have never put my finger on it.

Its always been one of my favourites. Kind of every day and mundane in one respect, but kind of captures that essence of that rail blue time for us.

You mean like this shot, looking the other way. Someone can probably supply the details of the 'Grantham Executive'.....

I don’t know when you took that picture at Penzance but I’m pretty sure that if there was still any Motorail traffic by then, it would have been in GUVs on the back of the Paddington sleeper.

47s at Canterbury East

Heading up from Dover Town.

Incidentally. I am modeling one of these 47 hauled freights with their variety of ferry waggons. Have any of the transfersea vans used to transport the onions ever been produced in some obscure kit form?

Could have been the 70s with that class 31 c/w buffer beam cowlings and bodyside bands, a black breakdown crane and Mk1 SLC and Motorail flats in the background.
