Any chance of posting the actual pictures rather than tedious links please.

By posting the links problems with copyright are avoided.

Hope to see lots more of the photos.

These photos are all mine. They have also been uploaded to my photo-sharing site - ipernity - where you will find my album http://www.ipernity.com/doc/philsutters/album/1276278?with=25726609 and a group dedicated to signals and signalling http://www.ipernity.com/group/691951/doc?with=25726609 . There is plenty of other excellent railway material on the site. Check out some of the photographers in the group and look at their albums.

The challenge today is to photograph them while you can.

Now you see it

Now you don't. Urlay Nook Teesside.

I still find gems like Bowesfield junction, Stockton. Not operational but used to house equipment. Still impressive. Location wise it was impossible to photograph until recently when a new housing estate was built opposite.

Looks as if Severn Bridge Junction has received a new set of diagrams since I visited in 2007 when we were preparing for the start up of Wrexham & Shropshire. Some pictures of the other Shrewsbury 'Boxes.

Starting with Crewe Junction at the north end of the station. Although it looks squat, the rear of the building reaches down to street level and is quite impressive.

At that time at least, it still retained its pre-BR block instruments and a set of rotary train describers which worked to Severn Bridge Junction although by then they were out of use but were in effect preserved by the signallers.

Abbey Foregate at the south/east corner of the triangle on the line in from Wolverhampton. This was provided by the GWR, the other two were by the LNWR - Shrewsbury being joint territory.

Sadly, as W&S weren't going that way, we didn't get to complete the set with a visit to Sutton Bridge.

Ais Gill box. Not exactly a close up, but it does put it in context.

Off topic, but does this show an example of a section of track, albeit very short, with one rail flatbottom, on the left with check rail, and the other bullhead? This is being discussed on another thread.

I understand that bit but the implication was that they were the OP's photos. I like the subject but cannot understand why someone would start a thread with someone else's photos.

Richard

They are/will be my own photos. I preferer to post them as links, if the particular subject is of interests you just have to click the link, if not then you can just quickly pass bye on to the next posting.

The former Bristol and Exeter Railway signal box still stands forlorn at Weston-super-Mare.

The box opened in 1866 and was abolished in 1884, so quite a survivor. 4/6/2017

cheers
