Vitriol Works 2014. I like the modernish box with heritage nameplate look

It was 60 years old when you took the photo but the design has lasted well, although short lived. It's now nearly 67 years old. The nameboard is original and was a popular type on the LMR at that time.

Gillingham! I recall more than 40 years ago covering the SM post for a couple of weeks, while Ben Dyer was on leave. A heavy rainstorm in the afternoon meant water rushing down the hill and onto the tracks by the crossing, so we had the juice off for a couple of hours. The evening peak was a bit of a mess, but I did get a spot on local radio explaining the circs, and apologising for cold dinners.

How about this for 'additional support'. Bamber Bridge, Preston. Now reduced in status to a crossing box.

Sorry cannot turn the image on RM.

Can't help wondering whether the box is stopped from falling onto the line by the framework support near the camera or if the whole lot is leaning on the end wall of the fitness centre,

Haven't seen anything that looks so over-engineered since they demolished the massively reinforced bridge that used to carry the A14 over the Brampton Road bridge over Huntingdon station.

A couple taken today, we were running Nottingham-Sheffield via Beighton due to engineering works.

Won't be long for this world unfortunately, much evidence of resignalling, I'm told it may be going live in March.

Beighton station box, although the station is long gone.

Finally for here, Woodburn Junction, western access to Tinsley yard and the start point of the remnant of the Woodhead route as far as Deepcar.

I have a couple of things to post in the ghost in the machine thread later.

One box I used to pass occasionally was Pinxton, but I never managed to stop and get a photo though.

It actually passed me one day, I had to detour due to a road closure, and looking out of the factory I was working in was amazed to see the box go by, on the back of a lorry. That was the day it was removed and transported to Barrow Hill, so I might still get a photo yet....
