Signal Box Photos

An updated spreadsheet including page 27.

I have started adding the company which built the box where I know it. With the "modern" flat roofed boxes I usually do not know whether it was the grouped company or BR.

Please let me know of any errors and help to fill in any gaps.

Hartlebury Station was a Mckenzie and Holland type 2 I believe and was possibly the last surviving such box on the network till it was demolished around 2012.

A couple more Argentine ones, though of obvious British practice....

Lobos signal "box", which actually consisted of a rather larger than usual ground frame set up on the platform.  The Signaling gear was supplied by a firm in Liverpool, from memory....

Empalme Lobos (Lobos Junction) station 'box, with some nice signals.  The whole station exuded the atmosphere of a GER junction station, though the platform canopies weren't as decorative...

18 months later someone had been at it with a paintbrush.... (shame about the guttering though!)

Another from my Aberdeen move. Newtonhill just south of Aberdeen. I spent many happy hours here as the signalman was chatty and gave loads of unusual movement gen, especially pipe traffic from Teesside.....I just cannot get away from the North East. What was most unusual was the 100mph rated facing point which fed onto a dead end siding. One would expect a ground disk from the release from this siding but it was a lattice post small arm signal. there was also a rare yellow shunt disk. Sadly, all gone now, removed during recent signal upgrades. The box is being demolished as I write. Note all bad news, the lever frame etc. was donated to the railway group based at Ferryhill engine shed.

Interesting 2nd photo of Rhyl No.2 'box (with Bahamas in foreground). The 'box looks to be out-of-use, but is that a fire escape up the end wall?

When I worked at Colwyn Bay, those fire escapes were a bit of a pain when Abergele closed switch (on lates), and the more enthusiastic of management tried to catch us working slack....

If we are going round the world, then here is Marienberg, Netherlands. A group from my model railway club visited it while on a trip to the Netherlands to travel on the British built diesel railcars at that time running between there and Almelo. Sadly, Inow read that the station building has been sold and the projection on the platform side, seen in the picture, which housed the signalbox, seems to have gone.

A grade 2 listed building.

It was reasonably amusing when the Guide Friday open top tour bus came round and the guide announced "Would you believe ladies and gentlemen that this fine building is grade 2 listed?"

Apparently the zig zag exterior is supposed to represent the electricity of the newly electrified WCML.
