The new viadukt is not a thing of beauty compared to the old, which is now a footpath, I think.

But here is the panel in Hetzdorf (Flöhatal) station, i.e. the low level, formerly the site of a marvellous 750mm-gauge interchange with the then-DR.

That narrow gauge closed long before I made it to Germany, unfortunately .......... as you say, the old viadukt is now a cycle/footpath ( perhaps someone should tell Bing maps !!?! ) and the new one's no thing of beauty ! [ The new viadukt shown is actually the smaller of two o the deviation.]

One box that I have not seen a photo of is the former Sears Crossing box, on the WCML, just south of what is now Ledburn Junction. A quick Flickr search has pulled up a photo of 46134 in 1951, but there's no sign of the box. Considering it was a stone's throw from where Ronnie & his mates did their misdeed in 1963, I find that surprising (although did the box close before then?)

From what I have found out so far, Ashburys West Jct was at 1 mile, 36 chains, Ashburys Station was (is?) at 1m 42ch and Ashbutys East Jct was at 1m 56ch (milepost mileages). Whether these were the signal box mileages or the junction mileages, I don't know. Also, the mileages don't seem to have started from the buffer stops at Manchester Piccadilly (London Road), 6ch being added for the actual mileage.

These two are from Oswestry but I'm not sure which is North and which is South.

Edit: Thanks to beast (again) for telling us that first one is North

and the second one is Oswestry South

Your best bet there would be if there was a box at East Zummerzet station in Wells ! ........... but the station closed in 1878 .......................

Actually, there was a box at East Somerset - closed 3/5/1965 (by the level crossing), but there is no Z in the title ...

The closest Z I can find to a railway, past or present, is Zouch, just north of Loughborough. The station was named after the larger nearby village of Hathern unfortunately...

Nowhere near Midland territory was this construction at Edinburgh Waverley. Was it a signal box or did it serve another purpose? Presumably of North British origin, seen on 6 July 1983.

Edinburgh Waverley once had 4 signal boxes, East and West were the ones at each end, but mid way along the main platforms were also North and South - this appears to be one of those. (South controlled the down lines and North the Up lines) - I think this is the old North box.

There was box in the V junction where the Guide Bridge line joined the LNWR mainline at Ardwick. I assumed this was Ardwick Junction box unless this was Ashbury's West. Otherwise I do not recall a second box at Ashbury's in my time growing up in Manchester.

I'm going by what is written on the name boards on the boxes which may be clearer on the original slides if I could dig them out but it wouldn't change the situation (what can't speak can't lie). According to the book I have (granted, not a BR publication) Ardwick Junction was 64 chains from Ashburys West Junction. I will have a look for the relevant Sectional Appendix though.

Meanwhile, this is a scan of a section of a photocopy of the Line Diagram from 1972. This bit is about 50mm by 100mm on the original.
