Michael Hodgson
Just now, Michael Hodgson said: The level crossing at Bellwater Junction is on a skew. The two gates were hand-worked, but if a gate wheel had been provided it would have been possible to drive both gates without them conflicting because the skew is so sharp. Normally that's not possible with gate wheels unless 4 gates are provided. The provision of wickets seems a bit OTT given the remoteness of the location. I suspect it was a rule 99 crossing at one time and it would have been a real chore opening the gates for every pedestrian.

LNERGE
Two memories of mine from this location.. One night shift was probably the coldest I have ever been in my railway career. Whilst digging the holes for the point rodding the wind caught my colleagues helmet. It travelled around 200 yards across the adjacent frozen field in bumps and bounds.

RMweb Premium Blandford1969 Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9, 2021 A long shot, does anyone have any of West Moors on the LSWR in their collection, it was a type 3a box on the old road. Whilst I have found shots in various museums, in Flickr etc the search for decent images of the box goes on, especially the whole of the rear of it.
