Wymondham (Leics) Crossing has double gates on both sides of the line and no cattle guards. Wymondham gates are clean, now, I know, cos I cleaned 'em!

Wyfordby has only a single gate each side of the line, long enough to meet in the middle, and cattle guards on the up side of the crossing.

I did my mp 12 in 88 and I don't think it was in the rule book then

I started in 93 and was told IIRC it was a quite recent removal, so I was hazarding a guess based my memory of that conversation. Pre 1988 wouldn't be out with the description of relative recent IMO.

Maybe because the single 'standard' gate didn't block the full width of the tracks, they added the 'auxiliary' gate for use when livestock were being herded across ? ( I see no cattle guards.)

You can see in the the first colour picture a corresponding gate on the opposite side of the line which would seem to back this theory up.

Here is Bamber Bridge signal box.

I was passing on a walk this morning, and a train was coming through, heading for Preston.

It got a mention on another thread, with a link to Google view, which shows it before all the steelwork was put in place. This was necessary, I believe, to keep it upright. I guess it must still be in use, otherwise it would have been demolished, presumably to look after the level crossing, which is on quite a busy road.

Was Broad Street the last London terminal that was controlled by semaphores?

Depends whether you're only including MAJOR termini ................. otherwise, I believe Addiscombe was.

Perhaps I should have said 'Inner London' termini ? ..... calling Broad Street a MAJOR terminus is a bit of an exaggeration.

Like the small attached building (relay room?) and the "optical illusion" of the brick (or tile?) pattern. There used to be a butchers shop in Cemetery Road, York, with the same effect with green and white tiles below the shop window.

Some of the bottom courses seem to have gone awry as well.
