It retains its old name with (new) in brackets to avoid any confusion with the old place. Andy

RMweb Gold Oldddudders Posted October 16, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 16, 2021 It was at Rochester in January 1975 that I witnessed my first wrong-side failure. A train coming down from Swanley 'disappeared' briefly between track circuits, in the Fawkham Junction area. A light loco 'disappeared' for longer as I watched. Signalman Winch may not have been the best person to have on duty for such an event, but he did respond correctly. It did not help the evening working.
Michael Hodgson
Spelbrook, shortly before closure. Note the large number of spare levers - it was essentially a crossing box, very busy line, minor but busy road, the gate wheel had to be wound backways and forwards very frequently. The box swayed significantly every time a train went past.
micknich2003
Michael, you are posting some very interesting photo's, among your collection do you please have any of EoD locking frames and gate wheels? Many Thanks,. Mick.
Michael Hodgson
I believe Maidstone West was EoD (maybe only the structure?) but I've not been inside & don't have any photos. Douglas IoM was either EoD or Dutton - but no gate wheel. I do have photos of that somewhere probably on 35 mm slide, but I doubt if I could find it until I've cleared a large backlog of photos to load to digital, sorry Mick. micknich2003
Michael, many thanks for your reply, IoM is a Dutton's frame. I have a few EoD pictures but not close ups of the locking escapement etc. The attached may be of interest. 6
RMweb Gold Harlequin Posted October 16, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 16, 2021 Could we split the general signalling equipment and interior photos off into a separate topic? The original focus of this topic was on providing a photographic gazetteer of signal boxes themselves, their similarities and infinite variations, but that is being diluted somewhat. Wickham Green too
I think Severn Bridge Junction diagram on page one was the first 'non exterior' shot .............. if anyone wants to volunteer to split them ..... er ...................................... Coach bogie
A couple of shots from last moth when I took my son to University. Alrewas and Litchfield.I have seen both these boxes from the A38 for years but never had the time to stop. I saw a portacabin had been put by Litchfield box which is usually and indicator the the box is on borrowed time, so I stopped.
