The Distant for Abbotswood Junction was below the section arm on the up junction signal. It was worked in conjunction with the signal protecting Abbotswood Junction by Gloucester PSB slotted by Norton Junction. The Distant was, of course, motor operated not, as some leg-pullers would have you believe, by a solitary lever in Gloucester PSB and a bloody long piece of wire! Sadly the classic GWR junction signal has been replaced by one of those dreadful Dorman lightweight jobs. Could have been worse I suppose - a VMS one... It is correct that trains using the Oxford line did surrender and collect their tokens at Shrub Hill station released by the NJ signaller. There are some very clear photos (not, I add, mine) here: https://www.roscalen.com/signals/Worcester/NortonJct.htm
micknich2003
Hessle Road (Hull) once had several Fixed semaphore distants. I'm told Goole Boothferry Road panel once worked a semaphore distant.

PaulG
Colchester Junction signal box was the last (?) box built by the Great Eastern Railway in 1921/2 and of a completely new design. Note the "bridge" from the box to the roadway, at the back of the box. The locker room windows were bricked up as part of the "Cold War" precautions in the early 1950s, along with a number of other signal boxes. I'm currently building a model of the box, but as you can see I can't find a photograph of the back of the box! Has anyone seen such a view?

RMweb Premium iands Posted November 2, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 2, 2021 Sleaford South today. To help Jonathan (@corneliuslundie) a bit, Sleaford South is a BR(ER) 'box of 1957 vintage. First two photos taken on 21/06/2006. This one was taken 11/01/2007. These two both taken on 19/01/2006. (The note over the block indicator says "Down Block Disconnected at Sleaford North 15/08/2005 - I think that's the date). And this was taken on 31/01/2007.
