BR 16 ton mineral wagons

Tare weight.

 

The weight they are when empty. So that when they go on to a weighbridge you can measure if they are overloaded. Or can charge the correct amount.

 

It's in Tons then Hundredweight then Pounds. So 7 Tons 11 Hundredweight.

 

They didn't tend to bother with the pounds by this date, but older wagons did.

Also when a wagon is 16 tons. That is the amount it can carry, not it's weight.
