sunrunner4kr
Hi all Anyone running a DB/DRG Class 23? I'm looking for inspiration for coaches to run with this engine, which epoch (assuming III), any specific lines/services. Any regional differences etc... Thanks all! sncf231e
The DB and DRG Baureihe 23 are quite different and of course the coaches used in East or West also differed. I have a DB Baureihe 23 which I run with express train coaches: But fast train or local train coaches (Silberlingen or Mitteleinstiegswagen) might be better. RMweb Premium ColinK Posted December 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 16, 2020 One of my first trips abroad was to Nurnberg with Ffestiniog Travel. It included a railtour hauled by steam, diesel and electric locos. What really surprised me was that the steam loco, a 23, was younger than the diesel and electric locos. I should have it on video (scanned from cine film).
rekoboy
Here are a couple of photos, taken in Saarbrücken in the 1970s, of BR 23 in action. Typical carriages, as you can see, are Umbau and Silberlinge.
sunrunner4kr
oooh that's really useful, thanks. I was struggling on the Google searches trying to work out what coach versions they had
David C
Try https://eisenbahnstiftung.de/bildergalerie and enter 23 in the BR search box. You will find 100s of photos of 23s and what they're pulling. Its a very useful website. David C 1

Bill Jamieson
Why limit yourself to passenger stock? - looking through 1974 issues of David Thornhill's 'World Steam', I see that even towards the end of steam, Crailsheim 23s still had the odd local freight turn. Of particular note in earlier years was an express freight from Wuerzburg to Heilbronn which took a 23 as pilot - normally the train engine was a class 50 but I'm sure I've seen a photo of double-headed 23s being used. On Thursdays the train conveyed fish in refrigerated wagons giving even more scope for variety. Bill

Dr Gerbil-Fritters
Just to clarify things, here are the Roco models of the DB Br23: and the DR Br23: Very different looking locomotives. The more I learn about the post-war period, the more I am becoming aware that the DB and the DR were very different outfits.
