I came here expecting to vote but they’re all just too quirky for me...

Hello brushman47544

I guess that means that The Team can justifiably claim...mission accomplished.:dancer:

Sturrock Steam Tender is certainly a good call, I would buy a couple of them. Another somewhat quirky loco would be the LNER C9 - only two in the class but again I would want one of each number

Hello Blue Max

I'll put that on the 2021 Agenda for you.

Now if it had slots around the sides, so that Capt. Manwaring and his platoon, could stick their bayonets out - I'd have one like a shot!

The Quirky Poll 2020

Hello everyone

We ran the first Quirky Poll in conjunction with our friends Andy York & Phil Parker of RMweb last year and many of you found it to be just what we intended… ‘a little bit of Christmas fun’!

You will find below a list of 25 items – many of which are your suggestions – each with a link to a photo and/or further detail. The ‘actual Poll’ can be accessed via the usual banner headline entry at the top of the page (Andy will load that during the afternoon if not already there).

You may tick as many items as you like, but – although this is ‘Christmas fun’ – they must be items that you would realistically wish to buy if they were ever made (as you used to do with The 00 Wishlist Poll) – it is not to decide ‘the quirkiest’.

Within the 25 items we have re-listed two of The Top 3 from last year. We also listed Rocket last year – the top-voted item – and that was subsequently introduced by Hornby.

We won’t say what it is for fear of ‘influencing’ you, but we have specifically listed one item on behalf of our one-time team-mate, Glen Woods, who sadly passed away in November. We know he would have loved to see it in – it really is quirky!

OK…stop working and get quirking! You have until 21.00 on Wednesday 30 December 2020 to vote. We aim to publish the results in the usual Poll Team format as soon as we can on 1 January 2021 – look for the title: Results – The Quirky Poll 2020.

Merry Christmas and a Safe & Happy New Year to you all!

The Poll Team

Robert Carroll, Chris Knowles-Thomas, John Lewis, Jeff Lynn, Brian Macdermott, Nick Stanbury & Ian Taylor

Below is ‘The Guide’ to the 25 items – access to the actual Poll is via the usual banner headline notification at the top of the page (which Andy will load during the afternoon).

"Built" being a very loose term here...

Yes! It's clearly built on an old coach bogie, but would be fascinating to find out what some of the body parts had been recycled from.

Those "windsceens" have a definite flavour of something that might once have sat on the roof of a Victorian full brake....

An over cautious alert from your browser. The link merely points to a survey form on my Google Drive. It does not capture any personal data at all and I have not had any other reports of such alerts in the numerous times we have used the facility.

No need to put people off voting.

You could do one of those with a Triang motor bogie, some plasticard and some paint! ditch the plasticard, there's lots of scrap material about at this time of year! Just use the card from a cereal box, a bit of aluminium foil for the roof and some transparent plastic from a gift box. You'll still need paint. What colour is it?

Just a thought.

Wouldn't it be more sensible to put the results here where anyone who has already posted into this thread will find it more easily than if it goes into a new thread. Doing so will also keep the post-results comments together with those from the lead in.

Better than a bought one !!

Gibbo.

Certainly 7mm would be no problem- though not cheap - it's on my 'to do' list! I can just about see how one might do a 4mm one, but it's matchmaking.......

Here's my 7mm R/C traction engine before it was finished off.

Hello John

The point is taken and understood but we always publish Poll results under a separate heading for clarity. Some people are more interested in the results rather than the list.

A link across posted into both would be a compromise as i can see your point too. It is just that new content churn so rapidly it is easy to miss things there.
