I remember Rev. Awdrey at one of the Canon's Wharf Bristol shows in the 80s, with what was in my memory a 009 layout.  A lovely bloke, and I rather enjoyed the brief converstation I had with him.  He seemed almost like a creature from another world, one where it was quieter and less stressful, and everything was a bit ethereal.  Good to see this layout working, very redolent and typical of modelling in the 60s.  I rather liked the use of Airfix railbuses as coaches.

 

Was that a Hornby Dublo power controller in the background?

Possibly that was Mid Sodor Ulfstead Road. I remember seeing that at the old MRC Easter show way back.

This formed part of his home layout and could be removed for exhibitions. Here is the plan from the January 1968 RM before it was actually built.

Looks like that plan was considerbly revised! Quite like that original idea though.

That is almost certainly the layout I remember from Canon’s Wharf.
