shanks522
Hello all, I’ve recently moved house and upon opening some boxes I’ve realised just how much stuff I have in N and 00! Im in a smaller house now so need to rationalise some of what I have, looking through all the spares and odds and sods I think I have more than enough to knock up a small n gauge layout, fairly simple oval with a loop, small depot set in an urban environment, I’m not planning on keeping the layout, just give me something to do whilst I’m off for a week, once it’s done I shall sell it on. Think I’ll make it DCC, motorised points etc, might even stretch to some signals. At the moment I’m building it on a off cut of celotex ,once I’ve carved the shape I want I’ll surround it in ply and make it more presentable, it’s going to be very much make it up as I go along but should be a fun little project. what could I build with this?? Shaping the trackbed, want some deviation on the levels just for interest. major benefit with celotex, extremely easy to cut and shape for a point motor. cheers Graham.

Hi, yes i do have a rough idea of what I'm going to do. heres a very basic sketch ( not to scale). blue area will be hidden, dead end siding on the front to give an impression of a double track mainline. Cheers Graham.

shanks522
Hello all, I'm held up at the moment as I'm waiting on some curve points, I've put down what track i can and wanted to get something running, most of my stock is still in storage but i've found some bits that have never been out the box so let them stretch there legs. Also doing my tried and tested method of propelling wagons round to test for any dodgy track. Happy new year Graham.

shanks522
Hello all, I’ve had a very nice few hours work with my step daughter, she showed in interest in what I was doing and asked if she could help, course you can..... so far she’s airbrushed some track, learnt how to ballast, done some basic scenery and also carved the celotex into the shape I’m after. Got to say I have really enjoyed teaching her some stuff and am more impressed that a ten year old thinks railway modelling is cool. cheers Graham.

Postman kindly dropped a rake through the letterbox this morning. beautifully detailed model, glad I’ve got them. work is progressing on the layout, took delivery of some laser cut retaining walls and a tunnel mouth, step daughter and myself built them just await painting, peco shed has arrived and points, just waiting on some motors now to install them. shanks522
Hello all, slow and steady pace at the moment. Tunnel mouth is installed and track ballasted, today saw the start of paining it all. I’ve been running the new PCA wagons and there dropping in the frog on the large radius point, a little annoying but after watching a chandwell video on YouTube I may have found a solution, extending the frog with a small triangle of card or plastic, tapering down it allows the flanges through and reduces the drop of the wheels, it’s not a 100% but a vast improvement of what it was. The points arrived last week so I’m mocking up how I want the depot to look, once I’m happy I’ll bed it down and crack on with the remaining ballasting. Got some 92s arriving tomorrow too, more testing I think. cheers Graham.

shanks522
Hello all, Daughter and I started a little scenery last night, she laid some grass alongside the track bed and built up an embankment with some plaster cloth whilst I made a start on weathering the track. shanks522
Hello all, I’ve been working on the plywood outer frame for the layout and was planning on finishing of the track work today. weekend engineering supervisor has other ideas! shanks522
Hello all, slow and steady is the way at the moment, backscene is installed, outer plywood is glued in position, will trim to shape once I’m happy with buildings etc. I’m going cut and shut two farish tower blocks to make them more half relief than low relief, I’m playing around with positioning now, have bought a Faller station building which I shall adapt to be more English, once I’m happy I’ll start securing it in position. biggest problem I have at the moment is I can’t stop running trains! Still, it’s what it’s all about. cheers Graham
shanks522
Hello all, As I’m going through all my modelling boxes I’ve been having a sort out and selling off unused stock, and things I don’t particularly need, one small problem with eBay though is you tend to have a browse whilst there, so far I have a new 31 on order, a network rail DBSO, then these turned up this morning! I’m sure there’s more coming! just waiting on some balsa wood arriving and construction will continue, I’ve also decided to have two running lines instead of one, space is there so stupid not to.
