Salmotrutta
I have offered to convert the BEMO "MOB Crystal Panoramic" set for a friend to DCC sound. I was wondering if anyone on the site had tried this already; if not I will photo graph my approach and share it here in case anyone else is intersted!
MichaelE
Is that an older non-DCC ready locomotive?
Salmotrutta
Yes. It's non-DCC and also doesn't pick up from the track - only through the couplers. I'm converting it to stand alone as the owner wants to run other locos on the consist.
MOB FAN
To clarify - the Crystal Panoramic picked power up by the driving trailers and coaches, then power was transmitted through the coupler? I saw one on an auction site that mentioned issues with the couplers. This would indicate bigger problems than just keeping the rolling stock coupled up. Salmotrutta
Yes you are correct - although it seemed to work OK with just the two driving trailers. I have started the loco conversion and will post it here when it's done. I have step by step pictures including how to take the bogies apart: that's a difficult job too without any instructions! I have yet to disembowel the driving trailer and coaches and find what wiring horrors await!
Salmotrutta
Completed train. Digital sound, LED lights independently switchable. In action
Salmotrutta
Link to document showing how to do it: https://1drv.ms/w/s!AtaUaZ7zC0LDhNNqtuHVFyyTVBSsoA?e=83gwPx It's a work-in-progress but all the pictures should give folks a head start.
