The town is small but it had a LOT of Mills. Pretty much all gone now though. More recently, Ibex ropes once manufactured in what was left of the Britannia Mill, which was conveniently was, located next to the Britannia Inn. The hill on the left was in Yorkshire and the high ground on the right was in Derbyshire. My cakebox 2021 entry will feature Britannia Mill, Mossley Goods yard, the spur into Britannia Mill and Manchester Rd. The goods yard and spur will feature a wagon turn table and Manchester road will have the SHMD Tram track going along it. All surfaces will be cobbled or York Stoned, and all walls will be stonework. I am going to set this in 1920 (plus or minus a fudge or two). It answered a lot of questions but throw up some new ones too. It all seems very do-able in the giant wedding cakebox of 8ft by 6ft by 8ft that we have to play with. Here's some of the shots I took... Plenty of detail and inspiration there. What do you mean I have only got 8 inches by 6 inches by 8 inches to play with!!! This is going to be a squeeze then! ( I also took some more photos.) I've always wondered why there was this disconnect in the wall on Manchester road. Now I know, it's the only remaining bit of Mossley Goods Shed. I plan to move this further south and onto scene in the cakebox but I'm going to have to guess what it looked like as I can find no photos of it. Kev. I'm going to move the Goods Shed gable end into the scene, the Wagon Turn Table is closer to the Tunnel entrance than it should be, and Manchester road is going to be narrower - but do-able I think. OK, I can only use the top two floors, of five windows each, but this kit will save a tonne of time. These Mill kits are from JSModels:- (No connection other than being a very happy customer.) Phil Parker has even done a (very good) video on building and painting one of these kits. Most useful. The Wagon Turn Table is an (unusable) prototype I made for another project, so I'm going to use it here. RMweb Gold SHMD Posted January 7, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 7, 2021 Loads of stuff arrived in the post today, a couple of packets of cogs and stuff, and some Lego Technic stuff. The Lego, whilst convenient, is large, course and adds quite a load. Great fun though - can't deny that! So here is the a couple of "few quid's worth" packets of assorted/random gears/worms/bevels/cogs. Hmmm... I wonder what I could do here? RMweb Gold SHMD Posted January 9, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 9, 2021 More CAD plus some CAM. The CAD is quite involved... The CAM will take quite a while to machine, so... (I'm quite pleased with the effect though.) ...I'm going to redraw the CAD so that the machining is quicker, easier and neater to both draw and machine. One or two other changes will be made at the same time. Such as the post marks up the side of the arch. I have no idea when these gates/doors/slides appeared but I suspect they were much later than the 1920s. I also added another course of stone at the very bottom of the wall.
