I'm currently building one of these, and I was wondering if anyone has gone to the trouble of modifying the sheet rail brackets so that they're moveable, as per the Parkside 4mm version? I have an idea of how to go about it, but would be interested to see others' solutions, assuming there are any! Or perhaps it's not worth bothering at all?

Hi Adrian

I have not built this wagon, however I do know that Rumney Models do a conversion etch - http://website.rumneymodels.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/B.92__OB.92_Open_Wagon_Tarpaulin_Bar_Detailing.pdf

That may help (usual disclaimers apply)

Andy

That's very helpful, thanks.

I might have to buy a second kit! (As there's parts for two wagons on the etch... :))

So, having had the etch in my possession for nearly a year, I though it might be about time I did something with it...

Perhaps showing this might persuade others to order one, as apparently I'm so far the only one who has!

In 7mm anyway...

Here's the components made up...

...and fitted to the wagon body.

The instructions say that fitting of the bar strapping is fiendish, and it's not wrong; I can't imaging what the 4mm version must be like!

The bar does work.

That was my issue with the Slater's kit; the bar was fixed.

Is it a trick of the light, or have you fitted the bar behind the semi-circular bracket? I think you'll find it should be in front... :o

Maybe BR did things differently.  Just had a look at some GWR hi bar pics and the bracket is outside.  Also the drawing I have of the wagon shows the same.:D

I have the Dapol model of a BR hi bar wagon:

Bracket is inside.

Always fun to learn something.

Must be my eyesight, it looks to be on the outside to me... indeed, it can't be anywhere else, as the semi-circular bracket is fixed to the wagon end by four bolts, which would prevent the bar from moving very far at all if it were on the inside. :scratchhead:

Ah! BRACKET is inside, not bar! Sorry!

I see now that your GWR wagon is not a shocbar, but a plain open wagon. On searching I've only managed to find one example...

GWR 'Open A' 5 plank hybar

The GWR shocbar has the same arrangement as the BR version, hence the confusion...

Quite right, not shocbar wagons, I don't have any of those.
