Looking good Darius! I don't think iv touched my last couple since mid December, need to get them mounted on the Stenson bogies. Have you just used nuts bolts and washers on yours?

Cheers

Hi James,

I used M2 brass bolts and nuts to attach the bogies.

4mm thick plasticard supports (laminated from 1mm thick sheet) were cemented to the chassis.

A 1mm thick plasticard “washer” was drilled smaller than 2mm dia. so that the bolt taps into it.  The bolt is fixed from below and is secured with a brass “locknut” that is fixed in place with plasticard “keeps”.  The brass bolt can be adjusted to allow sufficient play in the bogie.

I'm confused? The Stenson Bogies come with everything you need to mount them to the Lima wagons at the correct height. From memory, this involved melting a bolt into the Lima boss using MEK.

Perhaps that's only the sprung bogies and not the rigid ones?

I have the rigid bogies so presumably it’s the sprung bogies that have the mounting attachments.

Same my end, didn't know the sprung ones had extra bits for mounting, may invest in some sprung ones to re bogie the previous ones iv done. Having said that I don't think ill need sprung ones, seems too fiddly for my bodging!

All correct, the rigid are sort it out yourself, the sprung ones come with mounting bits and bobs.

Mike,

I obtained eight of these wagons from eBay, four of which had already been re-wheeled with 10.5mm dia. wheels.  The remainder had the standard Lima pizza cutters, which I have binned and replaced with Lilliput 10.5mm dia. wheels that are available in bulk packs on eBay.

Liliput wheels on the right.

I have fitted the wagons with Hunt Couplings - magnetic couplings from West Hill Wagon Works.  They work quite well but do have an odd “steam-punkish” appearance at the end of a wagon.

I have seen pictures of PWA trains with and without brake vans.  Did these wagons need brake vans or were they air or vacuum braked?

Nice rake you are making up there Darius, tidy job. Interesting couplings too, might try some out on some if my bits and bobs.

As for the brakes, I'm pretty sure they were air braked, but I do wonder about the 1st batch if they had vac and were converted to air after rebuilding or maybe duel braked??. Havnt got much research materials to hand at the mo. Quick check on Bartlett shows air pipes on a BRT built one.

Cheers

Nice livery - shame it’s totally fictitious.

This has always nagged me about the five I have!  Perhaps one day I'll copy your efforts.

I always thought the scale five foot gap between the buffers (due to the ENORMOUS couplings) looked worse than the fake livery.

How do you build them so quick? Doesn’t even seem long enough fo the paint to dry

I’ve got a bit of a production line going. Whilst the paint is drying on one I am modifying another.

Agreed.  The Lima couplings are horrendous.
