Top job Darius. I managed to pull some enthusiasm together this aft to finish painting the bogies for my curtain side ones. I think seeing your progress has given me a boot up the backside to finish mine!

Top job as ever, are you keeping your last one in Fisons?

All the best

Thanks James.  I think I will keep the Fisons liveried wagon.  Even though it’s fictional, it’s a very striking livery and with replacement bogies and suitable weathering should look rather good.

Good idea, it is a striking livery, anf almost seems too good to be fictitious in my mind. Lima must have copied it from somewhere I feel.

Made a start on the last of the original 8 Lima wagons.  I have run out of Jon’s etched trusses so scratch built them using plasticard.

The plan is to finish it like the heavily weathered BRT example as per the photo on HMRSPaul’s website.

Acknowledged the second item comes with two surplus HO wagons...

Maybe not Darius but someone is mopping them up, iv seen at least 6 go this week very quickly and caught me out!

I have managed to pick up one though this week but don't worry I'm not after any more fir a bit!

A good tip I found when i got the last couple for the blue ones was to spell fertiliser wrong, got 2 for a tenner! Fisons, UKF, pallet wagon, pwa wagon, lima wagons are all good search options- happy hunting!

Cheers

Door frames and hinges painted dark brown.  Airbrushing with lighter tones to follow.

The last photo shows where I forgot to place some masking tape before airbrushing.  Should make for an interesting effect.

You’ve got me intrigued by painting the ends brown Darius.

David Ratcliffe in ‘Modern Private Owner Wagons on British Rail’ says the BRT vans were delivered in brown but I believe this may not be correct. The Paul Bartlett photos suggest the sides were grey but the ends do look suspiciously brown under all the road dirt. Sadly I’ve not been able to find a good photo of a BRT van early in it’s life to get a clear idea of how they were painted.

Cheers

Just thinking Darius, have had to or have replaced any of the buffers on yours? I have one due to land today but I think it has at least one buffer missing. They seem quite long to these buffers would you know a likely replacent in keeping with the Lima ones?

The chassis for the wagon I’m working on now has been stripped of all of its buffers to replace broken ones on the previous wagons.

I have obtained some replacement buffers from eBay.

I used one of them on the Fisons wagon - closest to the camera.

Cheers Darius, I'll await today's post and check out the damage but it looks to be an easy fix.

Ta for the info.

My next one will be a Scottish & Lloyd's one, guessing yours may be too?

Hi David,

Paul’s photos show the ends as being so brown/weathered that it’s hard to determine what the original colour was.  I have put a dark brown base colour on and plan to airbrush lighter tones to add some variation.  The sides do look to be lighter grey with dark brown patches.

It’s a case of building up the weathered effect with different shades.

Cheers
