RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted January 7, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 7, 2021 I need to source either an etch or a casting for single side Morton brakes for a 12ft wheelbase chassis to go under my GWR Mermaid kit bash project. Having looked through the Wizard Models website I cant see anything suitable listed at that wheelbase, can anyone point me towards some suitable parts please? RMweb Premium PMP Posted January 7, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 7, 2021 Rich, take a look through Ambis, Bill Bedford and Masokits ranges. They’re possible sources.
RMweb Gold The Fatadder Posted January 10, 2021 Author RMweb Gold Share Posted January 10, 2021 So far ive managed to find 10ft from Bill Bedford and 11ft in the Wizard range, but no 12ft. the 12ft brakes I’ve found are as part of a full chassis kit. I think the best option is going to be drawing up the brakes in CAD and cutting them in plastic
Guest WM183
I think it would be pretty straightforward to use kit or etched brake parts and just build new push rods from brass strip.
Adam
I think you can probably make up 12 foot wheel base push rod brakes (the ‘Morton’ bit was the clutch which was patented: not common on 12’ web wagons*), from some of the etched in the AMBIS range, but that’d be an unholy fiddle. Guy Rixon has done the assemblies as a 3D print: https://www.shapeways.com/shops/guyrixon Not sure how easy it is getting things from Shapeways is right now, as I think they’re based in the EU, bu this is the only source I’m aware of. Adam * Some BR pipes had the clutch but I can’t think of any others. The RCH standard was the lifting link which fulfilled the same function.
