RMweb Premium Popular Post Gedward Posted May 21, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 21, 2021 Despite all the planning beforehand. It's only at this stage you find out if it's all gonna work. The platform is loosely laid. Still waiting on tarmac and pavers. 16

MrWolf
That's a Bedford OB according to the bus recognition chart. That's permissible for being stylish and not being operated by Stagecoach. Buses which are confirmed targets are generally found on bridges, post 1965 and painted in toothpaste / pile ointment liveries. 3

KNP
Bit late to the party chaps, just read from start to date and all very impressive. Look forward to following with interest. Keep up the great work and really looking forward to seeing the end result, if anything is left of course after that bus is dive bombed!!!! RMweb Premium Gedward Posted May 22, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 22, 2021 So armed with my new hot wire tool and piles of blue foam (now grey). We get started on the Dartmoor terrain. 12 1 1

It's great to have your input on this build. It must be said that Little Muddle was a big inspiration back in 2019 when I was at the planning stage. 1 1

RMweb Premium Gedward Posted May 23, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 23, 2021 Starting to get a general feel for the landscape but still loads to do. Will continue tweaking and adding contours. Then we'll carve some fields into it. And shape with Sculptamold and clay.

I can't wait to plant the hut properly. Sinking, slowly into a bunch of weeds and long grasses. As I said before, it's really only at this stage that you get a real sense of what works. For example, I was going to continue the platform ramp on the other side of the SB. But now realise it doesn't look right. Plan B, a sleeper built retaining wall instead.
RMweb Premium Gedward Posted May 23, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 23, 2021 Quite typical of a small country station. Only the essential/useful areas will be tarmacked. With the majority natural and overgrown. 1
RMweb Gold Stubby47 Posted May 23, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 23, 2021 For your hillside profile, imagine how the land looked before the railway was cut, so the upper & lower parts should 'match'. That way there is more of a 'line in the landscape' feel than a 'flat board with hills'.
KNP
When I designed Little Muddle I started with the scenery first then drove a railway line through it. I agree with Stubby that you stand back and think of what was there before the railway. Don’t forget most of this would have been dug by hand, normally on a tight budget so if the railway company could they would move the track layout to suit the topography. 2
RMweb Premium Gedward Posted May 23, 2021 Author RMweb Premium Share Posted May 23, 2021 (edited) These mock ups show roughly what I've in mind. But will continue the higher terrain around the station and to the right of the goods yard. With a natural slope down towards the canal.
