40034_Nick
Hi All. What do people use for making the depot concrete floor? In my case it isn’t the normal track distancing but wider between tracks so I guess A ready made kit isn’t possible or is it ??
crompton 33
On my Diesel depot. I used Polyfiller mixed with water and PVA glue. When hard just sand down. Then a coat of concrete paint then add grime on top, It's been down over 5 years now with no cracks . 1
Nearholmer
Plaster of Paris works really well for this - just make-up form-work from coffee stirrers and cast-in-situ like the real thing. 1
40034_Nick
any other suggestions..?
Ray Von
I've just had some success using stiff card weathered with diluted paint - mind you it was for a breakers yard in N Gauge. 1

I wish I could remember, it was in my stash of materials - I would describe it as a rigid brown (on both sides), dense, waxy card about 1mm. I would say strong cereal box type. Sorry I can't be more specific.

bazjones1711
technique for replicating concrete , this is card dabbed randomly with various match pot grey and white emulsion paints with a sponge , building up the layers gradually , i find it easier by not putting too much paint on at a time and starting with a base layer of one colour then letting it dry slightly before adding various tones, the joints are highlighted with black powder paints ( or weathering powders) 9
45125
Bear in my mind most Diesel depot floors will have some form of floor paint on them, usually red or green.
unsoundmove
I’ve used plasticard cut into strips then glued to build up the base, then primed and painted and weathered. Worked well for various diesel depot floors which are still going strong years later apart from when I used the wrong kind of glue for one of them, and it warped horribly. I think PVA worked ok. RMweb Premium Foden Posted January 12, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 12, 2021 I thought long about how to do this too, as I will have the same task soon. I thought about two options, the plaster method, or the card method. I have opted for the card method to minimise mess, and give myself more options should I 'mess it up'. I've bought plasticard to firstly take the surrounding base area to sleeper height, and then again from sleeper to rail height.
rob D2
Plastic card off eBay, mixed up wickes tester pots or green scenes concrete. dislike using filler etc as it gets everywhere
