Cheers Darius Agreeing that modelling the hoods is going to be difficult. But if you look at many of my photos the hoods are very neat and smooth. They are not an old fashioned tarpaulin but a sheet with a certain amount of rubber or plastic in them, and quite heavy - no one was expected to pick them up like a conventional "sheet". They also differ to the sheets being used at that time by BR on open merchandise etc. which were thinner and a plastic, as on the Clay liners (I don't mean the Clayhoods) Paul 2 4 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

These unusual looking wagons are unlike any modernisation era model that has gone before, catering for steel trains from the 1960s through to the early 1990s. In the late 1950s/early 1960s, British Railways was out of step with the increase in production of rolled strip steel and as a result, neither the correct type or necessary quantity of wagons were available to British Railways to be able to meet the demands placed upon the system by this traffic. Fortunately, this demand for specialised rolling stock occurred at a time when there was a surplus of rolling stock available and eventually some thirty different diagrams were issued, as a variety of surplus stock was converted for the carriage of steel coils, in varying capacities. The Coil As soldiered on in service until the early 1990s, offering a throwback behind modern traction in triple grey liveries. We were initially unsure how such a leftfield wagon would go down, and keen to maximise chassis tooling on any model we do, we thought it would be worth the gamble doing these interesting looking wagons as part of our MDO/MDV run. However, they have sold extremely well, with almost 80% of the production run now sold! One correction will be making is making those garish silver buffer heads black to give a more realistic appearance. However, the livery application and printing on the rest of the wagon is excellent and crisp. This is an easy fix, and will not delay delivery of the models in Q3 2021. Tempted? This just highlights the problem for a model manufacturer wanting to produce an accurate vac brake monoblock tank wagon, do they produce 35t, 40t or 45t and then there are differences between builders, whatever they choose will severely limit the liveries they can apply. 2 1 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Though one of mine seems to be missing a buffer. I have just taken them out the box! And I am currently on the floor in looking around in case it’s just dropped of. Which is a crying shame as other wise they are a wonderful model. Dear Fran can you supply a spare buffer and spring?
