Agreed - the hoods still look too uniform, neat and smooth and, for me, this spoils the overall look of the wagon.

Using real cloth, like Bachmann’s China clay wagons, would not (for me) be a solution as they have a “sewn by my Mum” look to them.

Cheers

Darius

Agreeing that modelling the hoods is going to be difficult. But if you look at many of my photos the hoods are very neat and smooth. They are not an old fashioned tarpaulin but a sheet with a certain amount of rubber or plastic in them, and quite heavy - no one was expected to pick them up like a conventional "sheet". They also differ to the sheets being used at that time by BR on open merchandise etc. which were thinner and a plastic, as on the Clay liners (I don't mean the Clayhoods)

Please forgive me coming late to this party - and I might have missed the answer in my quick scrolling - but will there be an option of single wagons?  Three will take up a lot of room in a little goods yard...  Many thanks.

Hi @C126,

I'm afraid these will be in 3 packs only.

Cheers!

Disappointing, I admit, but many thanks for replying so quickly.  I will be getting a 3-pack of MDVs though.  Best wishes.

Sound advice, but being quite weak willed, I have not signed up to E-Bay, knowing if I do I will buy even more stuff to clutter the home and which I can not afford, starting with childhood Space Lego...  I will keep an eye out on RMWeb's 'For Sale's section when the time comes.  Thanks for the suggestion though!

Hi everyone,

We have received packs of our Coil A hooded steel wagons as for assessment ahead of delivery in Q3 2021, and mighty fine they look too! These unusual looking wagons are unlike any modernisation era model that has gone before, catering for steel trains from the 1960s through to the early 1990s.

262714648_5(8).jpg.b23231541201c8e80c94871854a319ca.jpg

In the late 1950s/early 1960s, British Railways was out of step with the increase in production of rolled strip steel and as a result, neither the correct type or necessary quantity of wagons were available to British Railways to be able to meet the demands placed upon the system by this traffic.

Fortunately, this demand for specialised rolling stock occurred at a time when there was a surplus of rolling stock available and eventually some thirty different diagrams were issued, as a variety of surplus stock was converted for the carriage of steel coils, in varying capacities.

The Coil As soldiered on in service until the early 1990s, offering a throwback behind modern traction in triple grey liveries.

We were initially unsure how such a leftfield wagon would go down, and keen to maximise chassis tooling on any model we do, we thought it would be worth the gamble doing these interesting looking wagons as part of our MDO/MDV run. However, they have sold extremely well, with almost 80% of the production run now sold!

One correction will be making is making those garish silver buffer heads black to give a more realistic appearance. However, the livery application and printing on the rest of the wagon is excellent and crisp. This is an easy fix, and will not delay delivery of the models in Q3 2021.

Tempted? Will three packs priced at just £74.95 and a bundle deal for all three priced at £199.95 they offer excellent value! You can also photos of all coil A wagons on our website by clicking here.

Cheers!

That's a good shout actually. Bachmanns generic 'TTA' doesn't really cut the mustard for 60's and 70's modellers without modification.

There is always one to spoil it !!!!!

Alright - 40t tanks then Accurascale.

If you do it right you make the steam guys happy with 9Fs and Black fives as  well as  the plethora of diesels

The tanks in the top photo are 45t, and the bottom one shows tanks of at least two different sizes.

This just highlights the problem for a model manufacturer wanting to produce an accurate vac brake monoblock tank wagon, do they produce 35t, 40t or 45t and then there are differences between builders, whatever they choose will severely limit the liveries they can apply.

And do you want them to do every one of the wagon numbers in that train?

Assuming of course  they all have numbers under the grime.  Good photo.

I got a note today to say my order had been shipped. This model was announced earlier this year. Given all thats going on in the world, that is very quick.

Many thanks for your order and kind words, @BR Blue! Shipping has kicked off today and will take several more days to complete.

Cheers!

Looks as though Accurascale have factory added patch repairs to the fabric.  Something I probably don't now need to do myself to subtly discolour the hoods and make them look more individual.

Can't wait for my parcel to arrive.  Well done guys.

Finally arrived today will put the on the layout later. They really are lovely little models. Though one of mine seems to be missing a buffer. I have just taken them out the box! And I am currently on the floor in looking around in case it’s just dropped of. Which is a crying shame as other wise they are a wonderful model. Dear Fran can you supply a spare buffer and spring?
