Transpennine Class 68 & Mark 5 Stock (not being) taken out of Service

The issue at Scarborough is that the advent of Class 68 has greatly increased the noise level, compared to previously, and therefore the residents' concern is understandable.  And in most places road noise is reduced at night, next to a railway depot the opposite is often the case !

And a shore supply for the carriages (and any loco engine pre-heat/ battery charging facility that may exist) would largely solve the problem. Hopefully one gets put in so that locos don't have to waste fuel and annoy the neighbours.

But even you're not sure.

However, unless there is a proper safety concern I cannot see TPE giving up on the MK5s unless they believe they now have too much stock on their hands and are looking to save money (under pressure from paymaster HM Treasury).

Well no one at work has heard of it and I was told by work that this had been put out by someone as a wind up for some reason

One diesel loco ticking over.....pheeewwww  .....Should have tried Marylebone 1970 - 1992 ish - inhaling blue diesel fumes from idling 115s. 3 or 4 of em belching out blue smoke like a Trabant on speed.

Always needed a couple of paracetamol by the time I got back to Aylesbury !

When men were men and diesel was an expectorant ! (I have my tongue firmly in my cheek).

Cheers

Matt

And the class 15 clagging on the blocks on carriage heating duties!

At present the 68s and mk5s being taken out of service permanently  is absolute wibble of the highest order, 11 out of the 13 mk5 sets have been accepted. With the reduced service a lot of them are sitting idle, but things are still going on behind the scenes making modifications to the 68s and mk5s. Obviously while the noise complaint may change things a bit nothing at present
