Setting up and testing London Road on Friday evening at the Warley Show, 2016. Hywel Rees and Tony Montgomery (Ambergate) dressed to cope with the temperature in the hall.

Colin McCallum introducing a young man to operating the layout. He was there with his grandfather and had been back three times to look at London Road. I managed to find a spare London Road badge for him. It is interesting to see how many young people were in the 1980 Leeds MRS show in 1980, quite different nowadays.

Perhaps we were better at finding them. We ran a painting competition in the local schools and distributed complementary tickets to attract young families. That said, there was more genuine interest among teenagers and there was debate about small groups of unaccompanied lads visiting the show, often on both days. They were never any bother and perhaps returned to modelling in later years.

The photographer of this one was Neil @Calnefoxile when we were at Cirencester in September in 2009 with Pallet Lane and he managed to sneak a picture of me without a donut in my hand (I have since virtually given up eating cakes and lost 25kg). My wiring and control panel building skills have improved (marginally) since as well.

Running through my layouts- the first one was Furtwangen Ost.

Seen here at its final show, Loughborough (just to prove I can spell it sometimes....)

A difficult layout to photograph with people in front of it as it is only five feet long.  Now in happy retirement near Swindon.

And at a show that some may even remember- The Ricoh Arena, with Mr Simon and Jim Ross operating.  Easier to get a pic or two as sadly there weren't a lot of punters to what was actually a very good show.

Happy days.

@37114 Rob now there's a challenge, to see if I can find one of you with a cake in your hand, I'm sure I've got one somewhere ;););)

Cheers

I am pretty sure the offending photo did appear in the club room some years ago, it was when I was demo-ing at Cheltenham and wasn't particularly flattering if I recall!^_^

Here are a couple of crowd shots from Larkrail 2016, taken by my friend Steve Cook. The venue has a couple of useful balcony bits that are conducive to looking over the proceedings as Steve has done here.

Although I never really plugged this show very hard, and didn't advertise it locally, it always attracted a nice mixture, including local families and their children.

Lots of characters in these shots, quite a few RMwebbers I think, plus the Bristol S4 massive (sorry Rich!) Iain Rice is in there too, Lexie* was under the layout!

Here's a picture of a relatively new exhibition by Sheffield Neepsend MRC, showing part of the gathering at their 2nd show at a former swimming baths - in 2019.  I was on the 'spectator' balcony, just checking that my other half, lower right, was not having a problem with a two-engined Alco RS-1 that we were testing at the time.

Lovely show, very freindly atmosphere, and well worth a visit when it next appears.

Going back to cake, at some shows the distribution of such delights is strictly rationed.

Here we see none other than Jerry the Clifford with his "cake police":P at Warminster in June 2019.

I think he was momentarily distracted by those bottles...
