Brilliant modelling.  That B class tank loco is stunning - looks more like its made from an expensive kit than a toy. Thats what I call modelling.

Getting access to the battery compartment took a bit of thought! The whole train cost £3.55 total. (£1 the set, £1 the soldiers, £1.30 plasticard sheet and 25p for the glue. The Railcar, £3.75. £2 the set, £1.45 plasticard, wheels 30p. Primer and paint i already had, as most of us do. The lettering is freehand but Letraset would do.....CHEAPO!

Acquired a few more cheapo train sets (1) for a bargain price at the market so, here we go again! A Davies & Metcalfe, early Vale of Rheidol, 2-6-2 is the subject so mocked up a plan to work out dimensions to fit the battery loco (2+3). Body constructed to fit OVER the loco for easy battery installation (4). Adding mountings (5). Streamlined the loco body to fit inside and added dummy piston rods (6,7,8,9). A "riveting" session with 1/32 figure for scale (10,11). Note pony wheels are dummy to allow it to negotiate my very tight curves but does not notice too much as the loco is quite low slung. Plenty of room under to, maybe, fit proper ponies if needed.

Day off, so managed to get some work done! Fancied a lamp, (to use the bulb in the original toy) so drilled the smoke-box top and routed the extended wires into a scratch-built lamp. The power switch was given a wire extension for ease of use.
