brylonscamel
I've just finished an assemble-and-paint job for Jonathon at JS Models and another chance to have fun with brickwork and painted signs on his low-relief factory kit.. Thanks David .. there is a bit of trickery involved - I only highlight a few bricks, the rest of the work is more 'broad-brush' to give subtle changes in colour. I must admit that I do have some trepidation given I will have to make the building which sits next to Brian's on the layout. if it does not measure up it will be in the bin as well! brylonscamel
As I mentioned, I have a little test track that I'm jazzing up - so it can be used to add instant railway to the dioramas. It now has 2 x tracks so I can test 4mm / OO and 4mm / P4 locos and stock. Here's my lovely SLW 24 in P4 getting to potter around the harbour .. 7
brylonscamel
.. and my newly weathered 26 in the highlands - a loco that can more realistically be trusted in the remote hills, unlilke the "runaway Barclay" that was last photographed in the scene.

brylonscamel
Some natural depth-of-field was available on a beautifully bright day - who wouldn't join me in a scene like this, watching some freight traffic pass with nothing but the sound of gentle wind and a Sulzer 6LDA? Popular Post brylonscamel
Cottage Industries Has it been a month since I last posted here about the model-making? My recent ambition to make some reproduceable buildings in resin has become a total preoccupation! I had to get my head down as the commission work stalled whilst I switched back-and-forth between the studio workbench and the shed. My shed used to be a bike and tool store but now serves the dual function of 'cottage factory'. The space is proving ideal as workshop for dealing with resins, moulds, vacuum pump, compressor and pressure pots. This is all new to me and a steep but very rewarding learning curve. My old mentor in Scotland has been replaced by a dog-walking friend who turns out to have loads of experience in casting things from resin. He has worked in the film and TV industries making all manner of props and puppetry from cast materials. As with railway modelling, I am finding that creative people are very forthcoming with advice and insights from years of experience. He is full of little tips that have taken years to acquire, giving me a springboard into reliable casts. Here is a gallery of samples, variations on the main two models: Ruined Croft and Habitable croft know colloquially as a 'But and Ben' - often used as a bothy in the Highlands Edited April 30, 2021 by brylonscamel 14 4
