I used some spare flexitrack, cut the webbing from the sleepers and spaced out the sleepers.  The securing chains are from Cambrian.

Cheers

Sorry to sound picky but I seem to remember from the days when I had a Load Examiner ticket that there should be six chains or straps on a sixty foot panel.

No you’re not.

On re-reading this post I realise my response above was unnecessary and rude, for which I apologise to Trog.

In my defence, I didn't say it didn't work, but because the holes are too large, it's more of a faff than it needs to be.

Mike.

No worries Mike.  With my eyesight, trying to put 0.3mm dia. wires into smaller holes could be a problem.

Cheers

I built one of these as well...

Quite a challenge with lots of small detail parts to fit. My only issue with the kit was that there were no spares of the tiny door bangers which are very easily lost... A couple of extra ones would be a good idea.

Again, lots of weight and strengthening strips of steel and aluminium fitted. I also folded a number of small L shaped brackets of aluminium to secure the doors at 90 degrees to the floor. These were easily hidden when the load of scrap wooden sleepers was added.
Very satisfying to paint with the aim of recreating the wood effect. This was achieved by brush painting on a Matt grey enamel and applying washes of various shades of brown.

Well worth the effort for anyone contemplating building one.

Hi Darius,

Thank you for your kind words. I hope all goes well with your one. Thankfully I was able to rake through the scrap bin at work to obtain small offcuts of steel and aluminium to weight and strengthen.

I also built 3 BBA steel wagons and had plans to do more until the excellent Cavalex one appeared. I tend to scratch build wagon loads now.

Best wishes

John

I got two and bolted them with a nut in between so it stopped me twisting the wire .

Thanks for the note viz cranes - just got a drawing for the Irish rail carrier wagons  so this all good stuff to read and pick up the tips - liquid lead around bogie centre a top one !

Sleeper loads created using plasticard sheets and sleepers from some old Peco code 75 track.

I realise that, strictly speaking, the chairs should not be in place but slicing them off exposes a large hole in the sleeper.

Cheers

This thread is well timed - I have several Sturgeons and Salmons to build, so am following with great interest. There are lots of tiny parts, for sure. Thank goodness for my magnifier!! I do like the Cambrian bogie construction though - very easy to assemble and set up the bearings.

Decals applied followed by some light weathering.

The rails are from “used” Peco code 75 track lengths sprayed with Halfords red oxide primer.

Looking very good  the PW train now quite long.   I did just muse on how the carkind codes matches politics !

I wonder which UK  "luminaries" have  dirty little wagons named before them...

Back to waggonery , I was going to get 4 cranes for NIR railflats - have yours landed?

cheers

Hi Robert,

I had an email from Shapeways last Thursday saying they had been shipped by UPS with a Tuesday delivery date.

I will upload some photos of them on this thread when they arrive.

Cheers

Fabulous work with these kits, they look superb. I can only find a tin of Halfords red oxide, no spray cans. How did you manage to spray the rails, thinned paint and an airbrush?
