Hornby R3863 T9 120

I've been watching the arrival of this model with interest. The Hornby catalogue photographs place the livery as being the same as the previous LSWR 120 limited edition some years ago, however photographs on the likes of the Kernow website of the actual model show it to be a much lighter and brighter shade.

The latter looks to me to be the shade of LSWR green that 120 carried during it's pre preservation sojourn on the Southern Region, for example when it ran the Bluebell excursion with CR 123.

Can anyone confirm if that is the case? The Hornby descriptions/pictures etc seem notably unhelpful.

I've been doing the same, almost all the retailers seem just to have images of the box rather than the actual model, except Kernow and Olivia's Trains:

Which both show a much lighter green livery than that of the artwork from Hornby, which is a real pity in my view.

Has anyone bought one of these latest T9 models and if so could someone post some pics?

Not sure if it's the same model but Rails have a second hand one on Ebay (non runner) in the wrong box, that looks to be the darker green.

It is in a light pea green, pretty much the same as the Oxford Adams Radial.

Good to see the video, thanks for posting this--I'm not completely taken with the livery, I'd have preferred to see it in Sage Green, but your video has helped a lot in my mulling this one over!

I'm not sure any of the T9s wore Sage green after they had Superheaters fitted.

Really useful review though it would have been a lot easier and safer to have uncoupled the tender to fit the decoder rather than have the loco swinging from the drawbar!

I initially thought yuk  what a horrible colour , but the more I look at it the more I'm finding it attractive !  It does look a fine model with brass pipework albeit plastic continuing onto chassis . The quality on this is fantastic compared to the A2/2. Can only conclude this is from a different factory. The livery application itself is superb and that cab fantastic . But its the bright red brake wheel that really sets it off .  When you consider a Bachmann 812 is £199 and Precedent £220 this is actually reasonably priced at around £150.

I think it is. Both models are in their 1960s as preserved form, rather than true pre-1923 state.

The Adams radial would have been its most recent condition before its repaint/the condition it was measured in.

correction on ownership . 120 is at Swanage however remains

an NRM owned engine . 563 another LSWR 4-4-0 was the one that was deaccessioned and in now under overhaul at the Flour Mill for a return to steam at Swanage

Which should be copper, a common mistake on RTR models.

Yes. And only then. Until it got a repaint in BR black livery sometime in the early 1980s.

It's not suitable for genuine LSWR livery as it wasn't superheated until 1927

Apparently it was 119 which was going to be preserved but it was in very poor condition.
