Ok ok this isn’t possible but I’m going to try!

focus on the middle left of the above photo.

Below is based on that.

Ignore the left track rising that’s the 2nd circuit from storage and will be running on what is the road bridge.

More prototype photos.

Building below left from the side is my representation above of in low relief that will be made to run back as fits the space.

Below above the Raleigh woodwork furniture & joinery sign that big warehouse a representation of that will likely go in.

Next is the bit I need help with I have 2 storage tracks that run tight to the back of the baseboard that will be covered in.

Running around from Meldon on the next board is the narrow gauge yet to be finalised, on an upper level.

Below was the mock up of that, the minitrix is set to be a L&B loco. The height is set to be much lower.

Below is the tricky bit. The right line out of storage runs to the taw bridge with a point joining from the Meldon board.

The outcrop needs to come further out if this even works. I was trying to avoid the usual tunnel mouths.

Reason for the girder construction needs forming.

Then I tried another mock up.

Tunnel mouths these are N gauge but you get the idea.

The design as below would probably need 4 tunnel mouths one I didn’t think of until seeing the below photo over the right hand line following the point so the outcrop comes a fair way out.

So that’s the quandary, I hope it can work!
The narrow gauge is set to descend as the 00 rises to meet side by side and head across the bridge and once over (the opposite side the room) will arrive at Barnstaple Town Station.

Any pointers or discussion gratefully received.

Thanks

Ade

Looks good. Nothing wrong with N gauge tunnel mouths on OO as long as the train fits through it.   The L&B / LSWR Barnstaple station was a bit of a minimalist affair single line for std gauge one side of the shared platform and just a loop and 1 siding for L&B on t'other.  The idea of the L&B running to Meldon Quarry, probably not what you had in mind...    Garratts, 30 ton bogie hoppers, quarry up on cliffs by Woody Bay. Great fun.

Thanks David no L&B was never on the menu for Meldon I was just impatient to get some ng running, thought Meldon would be a quick project and that would allow some experience with ng. I’ve now realised I’m a very slow modeller! Garratts now there’s an idea.

I take it you prefer the tunnel mouth idea?

Cheers for the reply.

I tend to agree about trying to avoid a tunnel. Perhaps the deep cutting, a large building (warehouse or factory with chimney) and/or trees would create the scenic break?

If you can make that layout plan work you’ll have some interesting changes in levels

Thanks Jon for the input the area portrayed is pretty devoid of trees but the warehouse could be all I need.

I don’t think I can get much further until I have mocked up a warehouse and see how it looks.

Cheers for some ideas.

I like this.  I'm also a fan of the no-tunnel exit from scenic sections.  Depending on viewing angle you may be able to get away with the outcrop and a few carefully placed buildings.

One other thing I would suggest thinking about now is what happens if you get a loco stall or derailment on that back line from the storage under the tunnel.  You may have already thought about access but if not it's worth factoring it in now.

Good luck

Thanks Chris yes the hidden storage is considered it will be lift off sections how long they are yet to decide.

The embankment and outcrop I imagine to be fixed to the point of meeting the level ground for the L&B line maybe tiny bit higher so the L&B track can drop in with a hidden join. Plug in connectors will be needed underneath clear of the storage stock. Then I need an ingenious way to lift out those sections when dropped in.

Cheers for looking in and the advice.

I think if I can make it work the girder section idea will be the way to go.

It was based on this idea below by @Nearholmer.

I could even develop the idea of a halt on top the storage lines.

thanks for the reply.
