T’Abbotswood committee has debated .... and decided to replace D5246/7651/7668 with SLW versions ... and to add GSYP 7600 and BFYE D5283 to the stud.

Thanks to all at SLW for planning these excellent models....

Ive been looking at the pictures of the cab contained in the flyer.

Ive noticed that the speedometre is reading 40 mph, but the loco has to be stationary in order to see it.  How has this been missed, what a catastrophe, Im cancelling my preorders i cannot live with such inaccuracy!;)

Seriously, have you seen the dials, that detail is tiny! Wow!

In the 25s I've been in and had a go at, the speedo always read 25mph lol.

Have ordered my blue 25 and like what I see in the pics. Don't care for the "other" 25 being done as the face looks wrong and there are a few things on the body that don't look right too in my eyes.

Then again what do I know as there are so many experts on here, PS I also play with 25s in 1/1 scale lol

For those who don't have Facebook this is copied from the SLW Facebook page:

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF...

Never mind the 'hand of god' what about the 'eyes of god'? Considering we spend most of the time looking down our models from above, SLW doesn't skimp on roof detail... (Mind you, we quite like putting detail even where you can't see it!) This the central engine access panel on our new Class 25. Note the lifting points, unequal spacing of the distinctive securings and a nice panel line surround. Oh, we also decided to have some fun and add a representation of the rivet pattern echoing the structural framing underneath on our rendition of the semi-transparent fibre-glass covering. Go compare...

Is this classed as extortion?  As the more I look at pictures such as this the more I think of ordering a second one. A single illuminated tail lamp could swing me!

Wow ... for one of the best “small suppliers manufacturers” around, these models outshine those made by the big boys, who have their own pages.

Have these forthcoming releases been reviewed in BRM yet ?

AND BACK ON TOPIC.....

Peter, not sure if you do Facebook but this post from the SLW Facebook page confirms the Loco will be correct at the No 2 end.

TAMWORTH CASTLE PLATES IN PREPARATION

What an interesting few hours it has been this morning! Here, at SLW HQ we are pleased to be able to show a little 'extra' that will be provided with our version of well-loved 'celebrity' D7672 TAMWORTH CASTLE in retro-green (Cat No. 2532). Each model will be supplied with finely-etched stainless steel nameplates that can be applied over the top of our printed versions.

This photographs also shows the air filter detail behind the cantrail grilles (not fitted here). Very few people have so far twigged from our promotional graphics that TC and ETHEL have completely different bodyshells from the rest...

Yes, the detail fanatics will appreciated that we have, yet again, got heavily 'tooled-up' to go into battle against the Danish invaders (before you ask, it's a pub in Stamford!) These locos had collision damage and lost their headboard clips and central lamp iron at the No. 2 end, making them look a little plain-faced. Of course, we had to do the same in miniature!

For those that have asked, we have no plans for weathered versions but can recommend a number of specialists who will do this work for you.

Thanks Nick,

I am on Facebook. but hadn't seen it. Looks like I will have to order one. I would still like a few pics of the blue loco though. Please.

Cheers Peter.

Have managed to resist so far. Watch them release one of the blue TI allocated NB examples just to make me open my wallet.

I tried that - failed! , wasn't interested seen as I focus on Scottish stuff but figured out one of them could be renumbered as a 1978 Eastfield based one , just hope there's not a plethora of Scottish ones in the next batch

Resistance is futile, why struggle against the inevitable?  Just order one and sit back safe in the knowledge you got one before they sold out.

Interesting comment from Heljan on Face-ache .....When asked if the errors on the CAD images for their Class 25 had been corrected, the response was "can you purchase a better one". !!  Well we all know the answer to that....

Yes we CAN indeed.....

Being doubly pedantic, you can buy a better one now (suttons will take payment now if you insist), but you wont take delivery for several months.

Being trebly/triply pedantic, if you pre pay you haven't bought it just deferred it, buying assumes taking immediate delivery in my book.

Any road up, I'm quite happy to wait whatever the semantics!

Kind of falls into line with the rather rigorous defence of the Heljan Rat I got, which can be pretty much summed up by 'we could have sorted out the issues if we wanted to, but we didn't'.

Do I regret buying one? No, but it will certainly be the only one and it represents a valuable lesson learned...For now I feel like I owe myself an apology from being impatient and curious enough to fold and buy one, so I should probably think about that third SLW Rat. At least I know now to wait a bit more patiently for the inevitable 25/1. :P

The good news is that apparently theyre selling well, so you should be able to shift it on ebay quite easily, then reinvest in the better version.  Once youve got your SLW version, you wont be happy with the Heljan. Better to have a homologous fleet than mismatch.

Pretty sure that's the definition of regret...

Yes and no. I genuinely enjoyed ripping into the one I bought, so it was a worthwhile purchase even if the intention isn't to hold on to it. Lets just say I'm not overly impressed with it both visually or in its functionality. The lighting on it is particularly poor. It runs well but the 'bells and whistles' are in the stone age. IKB is right, it should be easy to sell on when the SLW model arrives being as 'its sold out at the warehouse' as our Heljan contact so gleefully riposted after I laid in a little thick; and that was the intention when I caved in.

I think a bigger regret for me would to have not given it a chance. I did at least give it a fighting chance, and in a weird way I do like it, warts n' all. Who knows, it might grow on me yet, its got a fair few months before final judgement.

You're not going to suggest I have to get rid of my MTK one?

I've just 'reserved' a 25/3 in tops blue, however, I'm not sure what the arrangement is with taking money from the card. Unlike Accurascale who are taking a deposit for Deltics with a later request for full payment, SLW doesn't seem to 'explain' what will happen with 'reserve'. Can anyone enlighten me?

They normally charge the card when ready for dispatch. If they have no card details / expired card they give you a call.
