Dimming headlights on Loksound v5

I want to try and dim the directional headlights as operated by function 0. Despite looking at the instructions the process hasn't really sunk in. Could someone advise complete with subtitles for the hard of understanding what i need to do?

You need to find out what cv controls  it and lower it by re programming. 

Who sound chip project is it ?

Lets assume that the wiring was done done in the usual way which means front lights are connected to 'front light' output and rear lights are connected to 'rear light' output.

 

To change brightness you first have to tell the decoder that you want to change something on the output settings

by writing    (before doing anything else !!!)

CV 31 = 16, CV 32 = 0.

 

Then read CV 262 and CV 270 as these are the brightness values for front and rear light.

Maximum value is 31 so decrease these values according to your needs and rewrite them.

I've read cv's 262 and 270 and both were 31. I tried 10 and then 1 but there is no change in brightness. I have read each cv back to confirm the change.

In this case it is either

- unusual wiring of the headlamps

- tricky mapping

- secondary function output setting was used ((CV31=16,CV32=0) CV422,CV430)

I find it too risky to do something seriously wrong under these circumstances. You should ask the person/shop you bought the loco from.

Yes the shop has made some changes to the loco in the form of a tail lamp modification controlled by functions six and seven.

I have successfully altered the brightness of another loco fitted with a Loksound v5 just now using cv's 262 and 270.  This has reduced the light bleed though the folded headcode discs.
